Is anybody else miffed.....

A lot of analysts aren't buying the hype and use 2015 UF, OU, and Bama as an example, because in their eyes, Butch can't close tight games. They think his in-game coaching and late game management will be a continuing factor limiting our success. I can't disagree... until he proves he can keep his foot on the gas and close out a game, the verdict is still open.

Bama & OU games they had better and deeper players they were supposed to win. The Florida game was a debacle. Being in the game with Bama and especially with OU that early in the season and losing in OT with a true freshman MLB and a sophomore walkon taking all the snaps was better than I imagined when the game kicked off.

Depth
defense alignment
player execution
coaching decisions
these are in the process of being fixed we shall see how it goes throughout UF to UA 4 game stretch.

I think you are getting the narrative wrong. Because UGA and UF remain relatively down, and UT is one of the most experienced teams in the country, the sensible thing to do is make them the favorite to win the East.

But in the last decade you've become everyone's favorite whipping boy. The classic underachiever story, year in and year out. So on any given show one guy can tout the UT experience numbers and the fact that UGA has a new coach and UF's offense is unknown, and promote you. Then the other guy can go back to the party line about underachieving.

That way, one of them is right, and in four months or so can brag about it and either hype you more, or bash you more, as the case may be. Its win-win for the sports media.

I see the fact that we came close to beating Alabama with a relatvely new and unknown coach leading a ragtag band of beat up warriors as a positive development. But that's just me.

College football 2016 SEC preview, picks | SI.com

I think this is the worst projection I've seen for the Vols

I agree but the only way we are going to change this perception is doing it on the field. If we got 9-3 or 8-4 and finish 3rd in the East that perception is only going to get worse and everyone will start questioning if Butch can get it done Sun- Fri but struggles on game day where it matters most. Unfortunately we have nobody but ourselves to blame for people thinking this way and it will only change by going out beating our rivals, beating top 25 teams and winning the East. Butch is excused out he has to get it done this season because there will be no excuses for nobeatleast winning the East. And if we lose to UF,GA and Ala again Butch will feel heat like he has never had before. He's not at C.Michigan or Cincy anymore.

...about ESPN and other news outlets basing our close losses in the 2015 season as reasons why we wont be successful in 2016? ESPN and SEC Network ran this hype train before the start of last season, then chided VOLS fans for being on the hype train after losing. I don't get this sense of hypocrisy. The networks basically have their analysts drink the Kool-Aid, then once something goes wrong, that team sucks. Except for Michigan. Michigan could go winless and still be the media's darlings.
.

I think Tennessee bears the burden of being an SEC team. Since the SEC is considered king, any team from the SEC that is hyped is also simultaneously scrutinized and if they show flaws will be pounded. You can thank a decade of SEC dominance for that.

Nevertheless, that is the burden UT must bear if they want to be a winning SEC program again and not just a flash in the pan hype team.

Man up and win some big games for once. The good news is that once you win a bunch of big games over and over and over again, you can do no wrong in the eyes of the media (look at Bama).

So just win. You dont get credit for being good on paper. You get credit for how many "W"s you stack up.

I'm not miffed at all.

What generally draws my ire is them fawning all over UGA. For crying out loud, the sportswriters have pretty much crowned Eason the next Peyton Manning without ever having taken a snap.

I want to beat UF and Bama this year. But I really want the Vols to mud stomp UGA and do it again the second half.

It don't matter where we're ranked before the season, it's where we are after the season that counts.
