Is 8-5 good enough next year?: Yep another poll

Is 8-5 good enough for DD to be retained for 2013?

Again, its not just the loss, but how the game went...

Georgia
Florida
Alabama
South Carolina
Mississippi State.

It would be hard to imagine a scenario, where I would be happy losing to all these teams, but I would have to see the season play out. I didn't think Bama, LSU, would be #1 and #2 and Arkansas top 10, in the polls at the start of this year. I knew Bama would be great. I though LSU and ARK would be good, but I never thought LSU would be the #1 team in the nation. I thought GA would stink it up this year, and after the start of the season, they have played well. I thought FL would have been better this year, but who knows how good/bad they will be next year.

The point is, we ARE a bad team that is young and not much depth. Things will be better next year from this standpoint. If we don't see vast improvements, then fire him. If they are moving the ball on offense and the defense is playing well and special teams is better, I COULD be ok with 8 wins.

Even if we are moving the ball better how would 0-5 in SEC play be an improvement? Btw, I do appreciate you at least trying to justify your stance. It makes for a much better debate than just baselessly saying yes to the poll.

due to the bare cupboard left by fulmer/kiffin, it will several years for dooley to build up the talent.

Are you saying 7 and 5 with a bowl game win, or 8 and 4 with a bowl game loss?

A cardboard cutout on the sidelines should be able to win 6 or 7 regular season games with UT's schedule next year? That is alot of money to pay Dooley to win 1 or 2 games.....

My problem with this is, if we loose to these 5 teams, then who have we beaten?

8/30 or 9/1 - NC State (Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic)
9/8 - Georgia State
9/15 - Florida
9/22 - Akron
9/29 - at Georgia
10/6 - BYE
10/13 - at Mississippi State
10/20 - Alabama
10/27 - at South Carolina
11/3 - Troy
11/10- Missouri
11/17 - at Vanderbilt
11/24 - Kentucky

With those 5 losses, we have wins over NC St, GA St, Akron, Troy, Missouri, and hopefully Vandy & UK.

To me, that ain't good enough in year 3 of Dooley's rebuild, or ever at UT.

IMO, if he doesn't beat at least Mrs. Sippi St and one of the other four (UGA, UF, Bama, SC) then he (Dooley) has proven nothing really, in terms of real improvement.

Again, JMO.

I said 'No' because our schedule got a lot easier with the removal of LSU and Arkansas, and the addition of Missouri and an easy out-of-conference schedule. I'm not suggesting that Dooley would be fired for an 8 win season, but merely that it would be considered a let-down and would negatively influence the powers that be. It's time to kick the damn door off the cellar!

I don't think it's a stretch to consider these 9 regular season games winnable:

8/30 or 9/1 - NC State (Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic)
9/8 - Georgia State
9/15 - Florida
9/22 - Akron
9/29 - at Georgia
10/6 - BYE
10/13 - at Mississippi State
10/20 - Alabama
10/27 - at South Carolina
11/3 - Troy
11/10- Missouri
11/17 - at Vanderbilt
11/24 - Kentucky

With the rumors circulating that Crowell has been busted smoking the artificial weed again, UGA could be back in bad shape with their running game next year. Dooley still needs a signature win and it needs to be Florida to shake off the past two seasons.

For me 8-5 isnt good enough.. But for the university if that is the outcome he will definitely be retained.. But if one of our losses is to a team like miss state in starkville... See yaa

This is pretty much what I'm saying.
We should win 9 next year, with a shot at 10.
That's just 1 upset, winning what we should win, losing when we should lose, with only 1 upset along the way.

With that schedule 9 wins doesn't seem completely unreasonable.

It depends on how CDD closes on this recruiting class to some extent but I believe 9 wins would guarantee another year. 8 wins doesn't mean he automatically loses his job though as I think there are too many other variables to consider.

NO! This team has the ability and darn well better win 10 or more games in 2012. The schedule is also not the murderers' row it was this year. I love Dooley, believe in him like the Kiffin-creature said back then, "It's time." We got the horses though RB may still be questionable. However, Toney, Neal, and Lane, not to mention Young and incoming frosh provide us such a tandem of backs we can't be worse than this recent season. CDD didn't stick with what worked. He favored Poole perhaps because he didn't fumble. But Toney and Lane especially, if they had been left in and seen more touches would have gotten in a rhythm but never got the chance for that. CDD played musical chairs in the wrong manner so to speak. Love the man I tell you, but he's got to put together now. The best thing about the KY lost is all of the UT agreeing it was unacceptable and the time is now to climb out of this rut. Now, not 2013, but right now. So it's 10 wins or it's over, much as I love the Dooley.

Hell no! But the orange overall crowd who wanted to stick by Buzz and Phil just because they were our coaches will accept it and make excuses about why we can't beat any real teams.

How can anyone say that 8-5 next year is good enough to keep Dooley? He messed this year up, this is his last chance. Get at least 9 wins or get out.

I voted 'YES' based on your thread title, before looking at the poll question inside the thread.. based on your poll question, I would vote NO

If we lose 5 games remember that means we lose to Miss ST, Bama, Georgia, USCjr, and FLA. (Possibly take one away for bowl game) is that acceptable?

Prior to this season, many on here, myself included, pointed to 2012 as our chance to at least compete for an SEC title (win the east). The schedule is cupcake-ish compared to this year. No Arky, No LSU. My question to all of you guys kind of gets to the root of the Derek Dooley controversy around here. Is 8-5 good enough for Dooley to get another year.

Think about it, 5 losses. Either we get upset, or we lose to Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and the bowl game. In my opinion that would suck big time with the talent we have returning. So my answer is "no", if Dooley goes 8-5, he should NOT be retained.

If he is, 2013 will be ugly. I am not leaving a wishy-washy "depends how it looks option up." If you don't know whether you would be satisfied or not, then just don't vote.

Votes are public.

8-5 likely gets him an extension..
