IRS admits to targeting Conservative groups

Well, wondering how far this one will go before the DOJ shoots it down:

Boehner: Lawmakers to weigh criminal case against Lerner for 'misleading the Congress' | Fox News

House Speaker John Boehner confirmed to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Monday that lawmakers plan to press the Justice Department to consider a criminal case against ex-IRS official Lois Lerner for “misleading the Congress.”

Boehner also said if Lerner does not cooperate soon by providing information on the IRS targeting scandal, the House would hold her in contempt of Congress.

“Somebody at the IRS violated the law,” Boehner said on “The Kelly File.”

Even if the DOJ doesn't shoot it down, I don't think the House or Senate will take any real action. This is another thing that seems to be all for show. For such a serious matter, they are absolutely dragging it out and I imagine a good part of that is so it makes an appearance to their constituents that they are protecting them when they really aren't.

They might have just pulled their heads out of their azzes (doubt it but). Keep it in the news but drop the bomb about July or August so it's fresh meat for the mid-terms.

Well, considering the House or Senate can't take any action other than requesting the criminal investigation by the DOJ, you are correct. They don't have an enforcement arm to do that sort of thing.

All show...right.

They can order Lerner to be imprisoned for obstruction. They haven't done something like that in almost 100 years, but they can do it and should do it in this situation.

Yeah they can't do that on the job.

I see three examples cited in the memo. One was an IRS customer service rep for whom special counsel is seeking disciplinary action, one was a tax advisory specialist in Kentucky who got a 14-day suspension for promoting her views to a taxpayer she was assisting, and the last is that some folks were wearing t-shirts in the office and so since no one was espousing views they were counseled they can't do that.

So I wouldn't exactly call this rampant. Naturally, it appears on Fox and in this thread as though it has anything to do with the Lerner thing, which is a pretty big leap to make.

Considering that most of the rest of the media is in love with Obama, it would absolutely be reported by Fox. Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews surely wouldn't blast anyone for espousing their views of the anointed one.

Speaking of...

House panel votes to hold ex-IRS official Lerner in contempt of Congress | Fox News

A House committee voted Thursday to hold Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress, as Republicans escalated their bid to "get to the bottom" of the former IRS official's role in the political targeting scandal.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted 21-12 to hold Lerner in contempt. The party-line vote followed hours of heated debate on the committee.

And not a peep from CNN or NBC or ABC. However, Stephen Colbert was named as David Letterman's replacement.
