Britain's military is mobilized and ready to act. Does the USSR sit back and watch or get involved? How is Iran left any better off when the dust settles?

I don’t think we can guess if the USSR would get involved, initially the US did view Mosaddegh as a wall against communism though. It wasn’t until UK decided to over throw him because of oil and lead with the communism slant. You could make the argument the US genuinely believed the UK and fell for the propaganda too

The shah wasn’t good for Iran and ultimately lead to the revolution. Not to say Mosaddegh would have been better though

We all agree it was a clusterf*** either way much like most of the CIA operations around the world.

The problem looking back is they did a lot of stupid decisions (just like in Vietnam, Korea, Iran, etc.) because they were right to want to stop communism but dumb in what they decided to do to stop it.
