Iran

Are we capable of producing enough to be self-reliant?
today? no.

the type of oil we export we can not refine here. all thanks to Capitalism.

our oil is highly desirable on the world market, very easy to refine. means it fetches top dollar over seas where there is no oil at all. if sold here, because its local and we have oil, there aren't as many ways to jack up the prices.

instead our oil companies export the good expensive stuff, and import the cheap crappy stuff. we then refine the cheap crappy stuff, for our domestic use, and base the domestic price of the cheap stuff off of some ratio to the global market that we pumped full of expensive oil.

The left has lost its collective mind over the Iran action. Most of you are in favor of helping Ukraine, but not the Iranians. The war in Ukraine is related to Iran's malign behavior. Iran is a major supplier of drones and weapons to Russia. Iran got the weapons technology from China. Iran, Venezuela, and China are supporting Russia. Russia began to falter in Ukraine once Venezuela fell. Its even worse for Russia now that Iran is crippled.

Hamas attacked Israel with the knowledge and assent of both Iran and Russia. They did it to distract the US from devoting more resources to Ukraine. They also did it to drive a wedge between the gulf Arab states and Israel.

Trump is hitting at the soft under belly of Russia’s support. We are knocking out the pillars bracing Russia.
Russia seems like one of the bigger beneficiaries of this war, lol. Oil prices are rising, we're diverting attention and resources away from Ukraine in favor of Iran, we lifted sanctions on Russia and we're getting bogged down in the Middle East again while spending a ton of money. Also using a lot of our expensive tech on Iran's cheap drones and missiles

Why would Iran be doing this? It’s not like Americans would fall for it, would they? Nah, we are smarter than that.

Iranian officials and state-linked accounts are invoking the Jeffrey Epstein scandal in English-language posts aimed at Americans, part of a broader effort to inflame conspiracy narratives and erode support for US-Israeli operations.

Iranians break out in celebrations upon the news of Larijani's assassination.

You need to understand how deeply hated this regime is by the vast majority of the population. It's a righteous hatred unlike anything you've seen before.

Soleimani, the primary executioner of Tehran’s domestic terror, known to many as “The Butcher of the Regime”, and the Commander of the Paramilitary Basij Forces, has been confirmed killed.

Under his direct command, the Basij paramilitary forces:

- orchestrated massacres of peaceful protesters,
- managed a network of "black site" torture chambers,
- led the aggressive persecution of women and youth seeking basic freedoms.
- regularly used live ammunition against unarmed civilians

Question for the more informed. How much oil is produced from Alaska and Texas and offshore drilling and wherever else we have oil fields? When I was younger, someone told me we could produce enough oil to where we need not be dependent on foreign oil. Is that true or were they speaking out their ass?
Yes, domestic production has reduced dependencies on foreign oil. Now we also have access to the largest oil reserve in the world in Venezuela that we did not have before.

Good article from Aljazeera of all places with insight you will not get from media here in the US ...

From the article:

Two weeks into Operation Epic Fury, the dominant narrative has settled into a comfortable groove: The United States and Israel stumbled into a war without a plan. Iran is retaliating across the region. Oil prices are surging, and the world is facing another Middle Eastern quagmire. US senators have called it a blunder. Cable news has tallied the crises. Commentators have warned of a long war.

But this narrative is wrong. Not because the costs are imaginary, but because the critics are measuring the wrong things. They are cataloguing the price of the campaign while ignoring the strategic ledger.

I was going to point this out too, our propaganda ministers keep conflating "90% fewer missiles fired" and "90% of capability destroyed"
They said the same crap over Russia and Ukraine, too. One day half their tanks were destroyed and their artillery was depleted.. Ukraine would take back some land then lose some more.

Who knows what fighting, if any, is going on? For all that any of us know, Iran and Israel are working jointly to execute each other’s political opponents under the guise of war. It’s not as if any of us has first hand evidence to prove anything.
