Yeah. Us Millennials weren’t alive and it wasn’t in the textbooks. I only ever heard about it from one history teacher, not a part of the lesson plan.
What did you teach your kids and grandkids?
It was at the very tail end of the Carter administration, going throughout most of the Reagan administration. We had been meddling in Iran for 30 years and made an enemy out of them, which of course resulted in terrorism against the west, which means we increasingly saw them as a threat to obsess over. We gave Iraq intel, naval assistance, diplomatic cover, and aid while they were using chemical weapons against Iran, only to find ourselves at war with Iraq twice over the next couple decades, and our relationship with Iran even more broken.
Our interest in Iran has had our foreign policy ****ed up for my Dad's whole life, and I'm 44. We never learn.
