Germany declared war on us further to that alliance mentioned by @McDad. We'd been gearing up for war with both.

One of the bigger WW2 'What ifs?' Germany wasn't desperate yet, but they were stalled out and Stalin had just launched the 1st Russian counter offensive a few days prior. Most of those troops in the counter offensive had been pulled from Siberia as discretely as possible.

They were asking for help more so than supporting Japan.

1. Get rid of Saddam - Check
2. Rebuild Iraq into a Democracy - Check, it isn't perfect but they have an elected government
3. Eliminate Iraq as a regional threat - Check

Now Afghanistan is another story...

Nigeria asked for US Military support so that isn't war. Not sure why Syria is even the list. We were st war with Venezuela for an hour or so and won it.

Issue with US is not wars, it is rebuilds. Had we left Afghanistan and Iraq after we toppled the regime, we would have spent very little money and had almost 0 casualties.

And almost zero influence. That's not how we play the Great Game.

#3 was the goal, and then there's the oil. We don't give two hoots about democracy. We care about compliance.
