Iran

Donald Trump is obviously pissed because he wanted to go to the NATO summit and state his case for a Nobel Peace Prize and now that's problematic.

I get it. He's personally pissed off because he had a legit shot at making a case for himself, and may still have one, but every bomb that falls between Israel and Iran now scuffs his personal dream.

Beyond that, he did great serving American interests by bombing Iran's nuclear facilities and has shown great military restraint not going past that point.

I wish he was less self absorbed sometimes, a little more selfless in serving the country, but Presidents are narcissists almost by default. The last truly selfless President was probably Carter and he was a great guy but just bad at the job, particularly when it came to Iran.

I'm sure the Japanese in Hiroshima and Nagasaki aren't thankful.

You need to stop being so selfish and think about other human beings for once.
the radiation poisoning I would guess is worse experience than the deaths due to fire bombings, but more people died in a single fire bombing mission than from either Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

They definitely want democracy.
Well then let's MIGA. Help Israel kill the ayatollahs and let the chips fall. Proof will be in the pudding as the old saying goes.

My opinion is that if Trump is involved, the Marxists will be flying I stand with Iran banners. The irony there would be absolutely delicious.

great analysis - just like your Taco analysis. keep em coming
This gif describes every single turbomonty post at this point.

I am thinking of other humans. The bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima probably saved millions of lives maybe billions.
Even big time conventional strategic warfare had become really destructive. Operation Meetinghouse on Tokyo put up atomic level numbers. Hiroshima/Nagasaki did 2 very important things, they ended that war and signaled the effective end of total war as we knew it then. As a generic term "war" wasn't going anywhere but the ability to pack a giant air raid into a single bomber (and later missile) changed the context. You can't militarily "win" on the big stage, only take them with you.

The other thing that arrived was the fear that launched a thousand spy/political thrillers...what if even one got in the wrong hands? Be it James Bond, Ethan Hunt, Jack Bauer or Austin Powers the idea of keeping nukes out of the wrong hands is a story writ large across the geopolitical landscape. Regardless of whatever else they may disagree about, which can be a lot, the current nuclear power governments are pretty happy to stay in their lane so they can survive and stay in power. Not all ideologies work that way.

There's a quote from the movie The Peacemaker where Nicole Kidman's character, regarding who obtains nuclear weapons, states she's "terrified of the man that only wants one." Of all the established countries with the means to produce such a weapon and a government ideologically capable of putting it in the hands of such a man I've got Iran at the top of the list.

It's not our job nor in American interests to be caught helping Israel kill world leaders. Giving intel help and not getting caught, I'm good with that.

Actually being out there visibly helping just puts Americans at risk here and around the world.

The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

This illustrates the level of common sense over there. Fly by and rock the wings. That'll show em.
They should just drop bombs made of tissue paper in perpetuity.
its one of those stories on the internet that hasn't been proven either way, but during WW2 the germans built fake airfields and wood planes to mimic the real thing. allegedly the brits learned about these wood planes, and dropped wooden bombs on them.
not really relevant, but I was reminded of it.

How did the Islamic republic come of this on top lol

Pretty sure China has been the largest purchaser of Iranian oil for a long time. Perhaps there was a recent sanction against that?

But I don’t see this as some massive win for Iran.

Trump is just very naive and unsophisticated in these sorts of things. He blathers, struts, and seemingly can't understand why these other actors do things he views as irrational, notwithstanding their decades upon decades of acting in ways that are irrational to the West.

Trump is easily frustrated by people that do not do what he wants or directs them to do.

pretty much every new "trade deal" that comes out always seems worse than what we had previously.

I don't see why this cease fire will end up any different than any other previous deal with Iran.

China has been the main purchaser of Iranian oil.

How’s this worse than some previous deal in your mind

Patton's Operation Overlord assignment:

While General George Patton was not directly involved in the Normandy landings on D-Day, he played a crucial role in the deception campaign that helped ensure the success of the invasion. He was not part of the initial assault force, but his presence and reputation were used to mislead German forces about the intended landing site.
Here's a more detailed explanation:

Deception Plan:
The Allies used a deception plan called "Operation Fortitude" to convince German commanders that the main Allied invasion would occur at Pas de Calais, rather than Normandy.

Patton's Role:
Patton was chosen to lead a fictitious "phantom" army (First US Army Group (FUSAG)) positioned near Pas de Calais.

Purpose of Deception:
By making the Germans believe Patton's forces were the main threat, the Allies hoped to draw German troops and resources away from Normandy, making the actual landings easier.

Patton's Absence from D-Day:
Patton was intentionally kept away from Normandy on D-Day to reinforce the deception. He was later given command of the Third US Army, which played a key role in the breakout from Normandy and the subsequent advance into France.

Effectiveness of Deception:
The deception was highly successful. German commanders were convinced that the main Allied attack would come at Pas de Calais, leading them to hold back significant forces from Normandy.
