Iran

They probably will but what kind of war do you think would happen if they nuked Israel or us or one of our ME bases?
North Korea - which has nuclear weapons - could nuke S Korean or one of our bases there, but they haven't. How's a nuclear powered Iran different?

I wish I could live life day to day as optimistic as you guys because this looks like a **** show to me.
Never looks pretty when you bomb a country. This was the harder political choice, probably was the right choice of a lot of bad options as well. A nuclear Iran wasn’t an option with a fanatical regime in charge.

The War Powers Act has been weakened over time. But it won't be just Democrats complaining about it.
The 2001 post 9/11 AUMF Act, Authorization for Use of Military Force, essentially neutered the 1973 War Powers Act.

I agree with critics of the 2001 AUMF act who argue it's been utilized beyond it's intent by POTUS since day 1.

Trump's hasn't broken or set any new precedent. He's using it just like Bush Jr, Obama, and Biden did.
Truthful, it is not a good thing that Presidents are making these kind of decisions without Congressional consultation or some kind of approval.

The bad side of it is are there any Democrats in Congress who could be trusted to consult with? Not many Republicans either if the shoe was on the other foot
Agreed.

The pre-existing bills are no longer sufficient. Some kind of line needs to be drawn clarifying the extent and conditions POTUS is empowered to act under without Congressional approval.

Problem is Congress can't come close to keeping up in real time. What's the point of having some of the world's best intelligence and first strike capabilities if it can't be utilized in real time?

Probably. But without regime change, what's going to prevent Iran from enriching the Uranium they likely moved elsewhere? We gonna just bomb and bomb and bomb? Isn't that precisely the neverending war that Trump promised wouldn't happen?

I don't think a military solution exists here.

You’re falsely assuming Iran has unlimited resources for a “never ending war”.

Blow up their sites. If they build more, blow those up and kill more government leaders. Eventually they’ll either stop or be so weakened that the people remove them.

You think this is less dangerous than Iraq in 2003? Get real. The U.S. has bases all over the region, many of which are far closer to Iran than Israel is, and without anything close to the layered air defenses Israel has with Iron Dome, Sling, and Arrow. Iran hasn’t even started launching its short- and medium-range missiles yet. People acting like American soldiers won’t be in harm’s way are delusional. This isn’t about whether America can bomb Iran, we all know the U.S. has the firepower to do whatever it wants. That’s not the question. The question is at what cost?

A lot of Iranians will die. Fine. That’s a given. But how many American lives and resources are we about to lose because we let a rogue ally drag us into a full-blown war, one they probably couldn’t win without us, and based on no solid evidence?

And even if we bomb every nuclear site on the map, who’s to say we got them all? Can we really confirm without troops in the ground to confirm? What fantasy world are we living in where we think this regime will just roll over and never try to enrich uranium again? So what’s the plan? Bomb them every 3 years like clockwork? And if we take out the regime? Then what? More chaos, more instability, more unpredictable outcomes.

Some of you are so damn short-sighted. Your best-case scenario literally hinges on the idea that the very regime we’re accusing of building nukes to wipe out Israel will act calm, rational, and restrained after we attack them. That’s not a strategy—that’s a ******* gamble.
I would like to ask you one question. Have you ever laced your boots up on foreign soil? Our soldiers are at risk and targeted every single day at these bases in the Middle East.

Have you already forgotten the Afghanistan war? We lost to a bunch of goat ****ers dude. Doing exactly what you're advocating we do again.

We lost 6K men in Afghanistan and spent $2.3 trillion bucks. And for what? The Taliban remains in charge today.

What happened to Trump's "let's stay out of foreign wars"?

Fair. For whatever reason, the other ME countries, who should be heavily involved here, refuse to be involved in their own backyard.
