President Donald Trump’s decision to open a two-week negotiating window before deciding on striking Iran sets off an urgent effort to restart talks that had been deadlocked when Israel began its bombing campaign last week.

The hope among Trump and his advisers is that Iran — under constant Israeli attack and having suffered losses to its missile arsenal — will relent on its hardline position and agree to terms it had previously rejected, including abandoning its enrichment of uranium, according to US officials.

The deferred decision, which came after days of increasingly martial messages from the president suggesting he was preparing to order a strike, also gives Trump more time to weigh the potential consequences — including the chance it could drag the United States into the type of foreign conflict he promised to avoid.

“I think the president has made it clear he always wants to pursue diplomacy. But believe me, the president is unafraid to use strength if necessary,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday after relaying Trump’s new two-week timeline. “And Iran and the entire world should know that the United States military is the strongest and most lethal fighting force in the world, and we have capabilities that no other country on this planet possesses.”

I think that’s a massive misrepresentation of what he’s saying. He’s speaking to the fact that his findings shouldn’t be used for the justification of military actions and attempting to distance himself from that because if he doesn’t it undermines the integrity of his institution.

New information would include the stolen documents (occurred years ago but only recently confirmed), they massively increased their production of 60% uranium nearly doubling their supply in only 2-3 months, they denied 4 inspectors, and they have a new facility (just discovered within the last year).

He won’t acknowledge the obvious fact that “political leverage” means “they’re threatening others with potential nuclear capability”.

But they’re obviously just making and storing all this uranium as a hobby

It’s not a misrepresentation, he says 2 different times the information isn’t new and they’ve been warning the international community about it for a very long time. Your mental gymnastics is very odd

Wow a state that has had enriched uranium for years and promised to ramp up production increased their stockpile shocking development. They announced their new facility themselves AFTER the report. They’ve been denying inspectors for years. You continuously keep being intellectually dishonest and it’s quite odd

Given that we have satellites than can read a grocery list in someone's hand in NK or China or Russia or Pakistan, I don't think anyone in Iran is getting a nuke in their next UPS order. Among other things, we're keeping a close eye on the world's nukes. A very, very, very close eye.

If we're going to fantasize about Armageddon, let's suggest Pakistan ships one to somewhere in Syria or better yet, Musk gets his ketamine addled hands on one for a SpaceX experiment.

When he specifically said “this is not new” he was speaking about their non compliance. I’ve stated multiple new things. Probably the most significant being the massive increase in 60% enriched uranium.

I’m not being dishonest at all. You’re acting like it’s normal that they’re doing this “a state that has enriched uranium for years”….who else enriched uranium to this degree without a nuclear weapons program?

The answer is no one.

Because you can’t argue against that obvious fact, you instead rely on nitpicking statements in an interview.

After the report? The facility was known about in 2024. You’ve lost me there. Are you giving them credit for announcing a facility after the agency reported it?

When you say they’ve been enriching uranium for years it very much seems you’re saying this is normal.

The reality is no one other than countries with nuclear arms enriches uranium for his degree. I imagine we agree on that.

If Trump had been in office in 2021 when they first announced 60%, an attack may have occurred.

The reality is all the stars aligned for this attack. Failed negotiations. 60% uranium. New IAEA report. Russia being occupied. Iran weakened.
