I think he's saying they shouldn't sell weapons to bad groups, which implies he also thinks we shouldn't be aligned with bad groups.

Edit: I get aligning with Russia when you are at war in WWII and selling them weapons, but just aligning all the time with a bad group because they are the enemy of an enemy that you aren't actually at war with...I'm not into this. We aligned with the Taliban, then ended up fighting them. We aligned with Iraq, and ended up fighting them.
