Iowa=tough game

I really wish both of us could be there. I'd buy him a drink, then talk smack talk during the game. My family is going to a college buddies garage mahal on game day. I'm gonna smoke some pheasants, quails, and stuffed pork tenderloin with boudin. I'm a barbecue pit master at heart.

Trying to imagine the size of the rolling papers...

This is going to be a tougher game than many expect.

Meh. They lost 4 out of 6 to finish the season, and that's not even including an atrocious home loss to 2-10 Iowa State. We are going to have a home crowd, the better team, and a higher motivation factor. We should win this game easily, imo.

The only Iowa game I saw this year was the one versus Nebraska and for both teams deep down the middle of the field was wide open every play it seemed. I don't know if it was just that game but Iowa's secondary looked very soft and we should be able to take advantage if that if the O-Line can give Dobbs time to let it develop

Also they came out strong and it looked like they would throttle Nebraska but then ended up just giving that one away

Yep. Should have had more than a 24-7 lead (after four Husker turnovers) and then were too conservative in the second half and lost all momentum.

Since 1979 we played Purdue close in bowl/beat Wisconsin twice in bowls/beat Minnesota in bowl/lost to Iowa in bowl beat them in kickoff classic/beat Ohio state/beat Indiana in bowl/beat northwestern in bowl/beat Michigan in bowl...Penn state and Nebraska were not in conference when we played them. We match up well with this conference historically.

This is going to be a tougher game than many expect. Top to bottom, Iowa has a better Oline and slightly better Dline than UT.

Iowa runs into trouble with speed teams. Unfortunately, UT isn't an overall fast team. Much of that may be due to freshman just not "playing" fast though.

I see it coming down to 3 areas.

1: Is Dobbs accurate.
Iowa will put a spy on him, keep him in the pocket, play press coverage, and make Dobbs win with his arm.

2: Offensive tackles. No need for explanation.

3: Middle Linebacker.
As long as he is in position, to plug up the middle on runs and can read the TE, we will be fine on defense. We saw how having a MLB out of position, really hurt us, when AJ wasn't there. Let's hope it's fixed.

I see a matchup problem with Pig. I expect him to have a big game.

If Dobbs can hit a few 25+ yard passes (25 in the air), that will loosen up the Hawkeye defense so they can't stack the line of scrimmage. It would really open up the running game.

I really doubt we spy Dobbs. You'll see Iowa in their base 4-3 cover six with some occasional blitzing and some DL stunts.

The more athletic the opponent, the more simple the Hawks are because it allows the players to play faster and not think about what they're doing so much.

If your coach is worth anything, they will spy Dobbs. He has struggled against the blitz with a spy and press coverage.

Brewhawk, your last statement on the more athletic the opponent is, the simple the Hawks are.. This is true, even when we are sitting in the base 4-3 we always have a guy accounting an athletic QB. Reference NW. However, when you have weapons on the outside and our simple base 4-3 will have issues. Reference Maryland and Minnesota.

Exactly. We didn't account for the QB in either game. Very surprising and disappointing.

That sounds similar to a lot of our play calling this year. Get a lead and let it go. I know the pain, it's frustrating

No business losing to Nebraska. But that's football.

I think it's fair to say both teams had some losses they had no business losing. I think the game will be close, and the playing field is fairly even for the most part, some may disagree. Hopefully it's a good clean game, but go vols!

Like Florida and Georgia? Would those be the games you are referring to? Lol

That's KF football.. Play to hold a lead, then throw it in the tanker. "That's football" lol

We tend to get out to 9-0 or 10-0 lead and then decide we will completely abandon what was working and throw 47 screens to finish the game......BUT we will finally go back to what was working in the first place once we are down by at least 2 scores

Our playbooks are quite similar. Kind of funny!! My favorite plays are when our QB dumps off 5 yard pass routes when it's 3rd and 9. OR we'll run it up the gut when its 3rd and 7. It's really amusing!
