This is going to be a tougher game than many expect. Top to bottom, Iowa has a better Oline and slightly better Dline than UT.

Iowa runs into trouble with speed teams. Unfortunately, UT isn't an overall fast team. Much of that may be due to freshman just not "playing" fast though.

I see it coming down to 3 areas.

1: Is Dobbs accurate.
Iowa will put a spy on him, keep him in the pocket, play press coverage, and make Dobbs win with his arm.

2: Offensive tackles. No need for explanation.

3: Middle Linebacker.
As long as he is in position, to plug up the middle on runs and can read the TE, we will be fine on defense. We saw how having a MLB out of position, really hurt us, when AJ wasn't there. Let's hope it's fixed.

I see a matchup problem with Pig. I expect him to have a big game.

I look for a mobile Dobbs to give them trouble, but it'll be a close game.

I hope the juniors and seniors, having never even sniffed a bowl game, motivate the younger players and bring out the best in them. This includes "speed". Many of our freshman are now grizzled veterans of a season of football. They are not your average group of freshmen on a college team at this time of year. Hopefully that year of playing and many who were EE's will resonate on the field with a great performance. I think it is a tough game but I think we pull away in the second half.

Vols 34-Iowa 17. GBO

Their physical but outside of scherff they have an undersized o line compared to what we see. Their 280, 285,290, 305 then scherff is 320. Their d line is solid. The ends are not very explosive. I went back and watched a few games. Weisman the RB is a big man but he's extremely slow. Their punt coverage is not great and they do struggle w speed big time. Those guys are very tough, physical guys though for sure.

Listen, I want to give insight as much as the next feller but honestly.. I have not watched One minute of Iowa Football this year.. heck, not even a Big 10 team.... so I say we just Play tough..... play with Intensity.... and play to win!

Keep up the chatter by all means, it gives me something to read:)

Go Vols!

Iowa typically keeps the OL a bit lighter because of the zone blocking scheme that requires more mobile blockers. The guys may not carry a lot of weight, but they still have big frames.

Ferentz is an OL guru who definitely knows what he's doing at that position, following Joe Moore who was one of the forefathers of OL play.

Our interior line play was an issue until we moved a walk on senior to C and the starting C to LG.

Brew hawk, I see a tough game. I also see Iowa probably ahead of us with oline play, probably a draw in the dl play. The one thing that will determine this game, is how motivated Iowa is to play in this game. Because most, if not all of the UT players haven't played in a bowl. They will be hunting for bear. That aspect alone could prove the difference. Our boys will be ready. Hurd will mash some people every run. Iowa had better not go into this game flat, because UT will travel well, and the crowd will be rocking. This is also the aspect that scares me a little, because we are young. Youth sometimes spend their energy being counter productive in these type games. We shall see. Get your popcorn ready, and in my case, I'll get my Dickel and coke. UT fans have waited for this for several years.

Going to sound like a total Yankee here, but what in the world is Dickel?

BTW, if you beat Iowa it won't be because they weren't interested. The Hawks will show up to play.

Sounds like a bowl game date... lol

I really wish both of us could be there. I'd buy him a drink, then talk smack talk during the game. My family is going to a college buddies garage mahal on game day. I'm gonna smoke some pheasants, quails, and stuffed pork tenderloin with boudin. I'm a barbecue pit master at heart.

The one aspect that gives Iowa fits is mobile QB's. If their RB isn't worth a dang then it's a bit easier to zone in and if his arm is limited. One thing Iowa hasn't really got credit with is their secondary. We been known to give up some big plays but we do have a decent secondary. Which is 8th in the NCAA giving up 175 YPG.

You aren't in a passing league though. Secondly. You guys will have a spy on Dobbs for sure.

That is true. One would HOPE we spy Dobbs. Who knows how we'll deal with him, kind of scares me actually. ANY running QB scares me. Makes me want to drink, A LOT.

I really doubt we spy Dobbs. You'll see Iowa in their base 4-3 cover six with some occasional blitzing and some DL stunts.

The more athletic the opponent, the more simple the Hawks are because it allows the players to play faster and not think about what they're doing so much.

You should be submitting applications to take that head coaching job at Iowa soon.
