 I wouldn't worry though. His son goes here, and he has Chris Lofton back for his senior season. He's just wanting a pay raise thats all.

Pearl in actuallity probably has about as much interest in the Iowa job as he does in interest in licking a toilet seat.

I hate living in "Hawkeye Country." This is all they're talking about. I don't see anything worth believing... Iowa fans like to wish.

Let us for one second assume that Bruce Pearl has no real loyalty to Tennessee other than his current paycheck and as a stepping stone to his next job. This Bruce Pearl would have to be very careful about job-hopping too much. He's garnered a lot of national attention for both himself and the program because of the way he's relentlessly promoted Tennessee: the orange blazers, the chest-painting, the reciprocal Pat Summitt stunt, etc. The media has by and large thought all this is great because in this day and age, a little old-fashioned school spirit is a rare and kind of cool thing.

The problem is that he can't really go somewhere else and do it all over again without looking like a cynical, opportunistic Nick Saban type. If after all that supposed unabashed love for UT, he leaves after only two years and goes to the first job that comes along, the media will absolutely kill him for it. No more chummy chats on PTI, etc.

Therefore, this more cynical Bruce Pearl would need to be careful about changing jobs very often, because his whole appeal will shrivel up and blow away. He would need to make sure that each change was a step up, either in prestige or money. Iowa is neither (assuming UT would match whatever they offered him, unless it was ridiculous).

Fortunately, I don't think it makes a difference, because I don't think that's who Bruce Pearl is. The only way the Iowa job makes sense -- either for the real Bruce Pearl or his sinister alter-ego -- is if he either has a real emotional attachment to the Iowa program, or if they offer him an astronomical, idiotic amount of money. You can't compete with either of those.

I don't think we have anything to worry about.

I was watching Head Coach on FSN with Coach Pearl the other day and he said that leaving his last two jobs (Southern Indiana & Wisconsin-Mil.) was the hardest decision he ever had to make and he started tearing up on national tv. You cant fake that kind of emotion. He isnt going anywhere. He said on the same show that he felt like he had found the right place with the right facilities and fan base to consistently compete for championships at UT.

While he's at UT, that's exactly what I'd expect him to say. If/when he ever leaves, he'll probably add it to his "hardest decision" list.

Pearl's got all the tools in place here to put UT in the top 15 to 10 for the next few years. Big time recruits coming in next year. His is coaching his son. I don't think he would leave UT for Iowa with all that he has in place. If he takes us to a few final 4 or ever wins a championship, then we would be competing with NC, Duke, KS, UCLA, KY, BC or any other elite program. Not saying that he would leave UT for one of them, but once his resume is built they will come knocking. But for now, we are safe.

Smartest thing on the whole internet today, imo.

Just nit picking but BC is not an elite program or close to that level but I get what you are saying.

Pearl will not go to Iowa.... Relax folks.....

Do you all not see that if Pearl went to Iowa that would be a step in the wrong direction. It is not even a lateral move.

Slick Rick says, Coach Pearl is here for the long haul. He has completely turned the program around and now he wants Championships to go with it. He is here for awhile. Pay him what he deserves.

Iowa has offically contacted UT and requested permission to speak with BP about the IOWA coaching vacancy. Hamilton granted permission.

Maybe but I hope not. When/if that job opens it will be intersting to see what happens.

i'm not saying he would do it today. I think he knows he has to stay around 3-4 years more at the very least b4 he can consider going anywhere to keep his reputation in good standing. I do think he would love to go there eventually though.
