1) They probably we're a better team than we showed them to be in January.
2) Their QB finally got a an off-season as the starter.
3) Defense got older.

....However, so did we.

I would venture to say we improved just as much as they did.

Anyway, Iowa dominated Northwestern. So did Michigan.
Both times it was because they were the less talented team.
Northwestern plays very good sound football. They play hard.

They should be a tough match-up for an 8-4 team.

But listen... this game will not be close. We win by 21, after being up by 35.

We are considerably more talented than Michigan and Iowa.

Some of us still don't understand the caliber team we had this year. We played one team more talentd than us all year. But it's tough to win against opponents close in talent (UF, Okla, Bama) that are also well coached.

What i'm saying is, we were very close to being a top 5 team. We have the talent to be that. We have the talent.

Northwestern is a team that plays above their talent with a weaker schedule than us.

They are not on par with us. Talent wise we are top 10. They are not top 30.

Happy New years.

9-4 season ain't bad.

I'm not sure that Iowa is greatly improved. They just won the close one's they lost last year. I've watched all or part of several of their games. They look like the same team.

Truth is, we don't know how the game will go down. However, that won't stop me from drinking that orange cool aid. GO VOLS!

Iowa wasn't that much improved IMO..They played what I consider a weak schedule and caught some timely breaks..11-0 was really miraculous IMO but CKF will reap the benefits of 11-2 come contract time...

Even when Iowa met an 11-1(at the time) Michigan State they still only lost by 3 points, 16-13. That's a loss but still a hard fought game.

And they beat up our opponent pretty bad.

So.... I think we beat them just as badly.

You were right about Mizzou, btw.
I gave them far too much credit coming into the season.

I would be completely shocked if we got up by 35 on their defense. Maybe with a couple special teams touchdowns and a couple turnovers it could happen but their defense is good. I know they got drilled by Michigan and Iowa but they beat Stanford who is now ranked #6. It's football anything can happen.

You have to be pretty darn deep with talent to be a top 5 team.

Are you blind? We're stacked with talent. The only reason we didn't win more outside some questionable coaching decisions is inexperience. Almost all of our talent is freshmen and sophomores.

Yeah, I think they have the same uniforms as last year.

Normally that's not how championship teams are built. I think Ohio State was the outlier last year.

We beat them like a drum last year and would do the same right now. They are an overrated team with a garbage schedule. Play high school teams 85% of the year and your W/L will look similar.

Places we are not YET stacked with talent:

OL (Starting to build quality depth)
Secondary (little depth at CB behind starters)
LB (starting two freshmen with backups like Jumper and Bynum)

The problem is depth. We need to be talented throughout the depth chart to really compete.

it would have been nice for Iowa to have played against us with the same intensity they did in the Big 10 championship game versus Michigan St. We would have had a better read on our team. They could have cared less about being in Jacksonville.

I have listened to a few interviews with Ferentz, and he admitted what the problem was. He also admitted how they fixed it. He basically admitted that they were not working hard enough or being willing to make changes. He said the way they finished the regular season and the bowl game forced them to re-evaluate their program. They made huge changes to their structure, planning, and work ethic after the bowl game with UT. Iowa is nowhere near the team it was last season. UT fans that only have seen a few clips and bits and pieces of them would never know that. UT fans are really good at being haters. Its sickening at times.

Stupid, uninformed comments like yours force me to comment. If *your going to be a fan, be a knowledgeable fan.

"Aw, don't be mad 'toine."

*Also, slamming someone's knowledge usually carries more weight if you also demonstrate knowledge.

I know they lost a really good starting lineman that was holding Barnett all game.

I also think the 2015 UT team would crush the 2014 UT team 2 scores or more.

The 2015 Iowa team would edge out the 2014 Iowa team.

Not quite sure by your posts you are one to throw stones.

Iowa had no intensity in our bowl game last year and they played like it, however, they looked like they were running in sand. They looked far better in the champ game the other day but none of their players really stood out and that is reflected by their recent recruiting. I cannot speak for NU as I haven't watched them but two blowout losses do not bode well coming into this game. People keep asking me how is UT favored with NU's lofty ranking as the math doesn't add up? Ask yourself that same question.

What? It took a loss from Tennessee, for their program to realize its 2014 season was not up to par -- even if they play slightly-weaker schedule, that's hardly hatred on the part of Volnation.

Main take-away I see: hopefully Coach Jones, likewise, will have learned from the losses to OU and FL, and put that to good work in 2016's BIG-opponent games (including NU).
