Willin you are right on. Those not on the Koolaide worry about the excitement factor that has a major impact on recruiting. He is as exciting as dry toast. Add the obvious concerns regarding recruiting foul ups and us skeptics are just that, skeptical. The koolaide crowd point to his recruiting of the 2010 class only problem with that is it was Kiffin's class and without the EE it would not have ranked in the top 30. I am waiting on some proof this staff can recruit and I have no evidence yet. They up to this point look like the keystone cops. I would like nothing better than him to prove me wrong.
Yeah, a year and some change coaching the NFLs most hapless franchise followed by turning the pile of slop Fulmer left into a 7-6 squad that, if they had a kicker, beats the national champion on their home turf is a really damning blemish on Lane Kiffin's dossier.
Oh, BTW, Lane Kiffin had absolutely nothing to do with signing the number 1 player in the country and stealing two very highly coveted prospects from rivals. It's even more unimpressive that he accomplished those tasks after a season in which the Vols lost to Wyoming, didn't go bowling, and had been irrelevant for damn near a decade.
I can understand why some folks might feel demoralized about not getting a big name coach to replace Kiffin and about the slow start in recruiting for 2011, at least slow compared to UF and Bama, and how that translates into a kneejerk dislike for Dooley. I also understand that for some fans, Dooley may represent and archetype that they just cannot abide. I cannot, however, understand why any Vols fan would hold up what Lane Kiffin did as hfc at UTK as an example to be admired and followed. Lane Kiffin did more harm to UTK football with the manner and timing of his departure than any other single person inside or outside the program ever has done, and likely ever will do and he did it as a conscious decision of his own free will. I try not to question the degree of fan loyalty that any poster feels for the program, but I have a really hard time believing that a friend of the UTK football program would have anything but contempt for Lane Kiffin and what he did to our program.
But kiffin failed miserably with the raiders and lost 5 games with UT. What gives????

From a page back.
The rational of some of the Dooley haters is extremely funny.

Yeah, and it's funny how the extreme haters have just one argument as to why they hate him so much. His losing record in the WAC. They don't care why he may have lost so much, just that he did.
But, bring up FLK (thanks Sabanocchio) losing record and the excuses come from the woodwork. Amazing.
Just to clarify, I am merely pointing out that there are arguments on both sides, and that one cannot intelligently deem Dooley a failure before he's coached a down in the SEC while touting Kiffin as an accomplished coach. Kiffin's record, and accomplishments, suggest otherwise.
