g8terh8ter_eric and Sabanocchio we all had a sip of the kiffin Kool-aid and was crunk to it till black tuesday. i was drunk to it and i paid for it that night haha.

anyways both of you are right

I think I was more critical than most of Kiffin. Just saying. I caught heat for it, but I stand by my opinion. Like anyone on here didn't know that...

I see where you're coming from on this. There were many times i thought that probation may be on the horizon.

I never thought probabtion was on the horizon, but embarrassment was on the horizon every time he opened his mouth. I do think he assembled a terrific staff, and I think he would've won here, but man. . . he scared me to death whenever he spoke.

What I always wondered was how is a guy that blubbers and blathers through an interview going to inspire a team?

I think the fact that everyone walked out of the meeting when he announced he was leaving and some took shots at him just shows you how little respect they had for the man to begin with.

I expected a smarta** comment every time he stepped up to a podium.

I don't know if you read other Vol blogs, but the guys at Rocky Top Talk (I can't remember whether it was Joel or Will) had an interesting theory on this.

As you may or may not know, "burning bridges" comes from an ancient military tactic. After you crossed a body of water, you'd burn the bridges (or your ships), so that there was no option of turning back. Everyone fought with their backs against the wall, and it was supposed to inspire the men. Joel (I think) figured that Kiffin was doing the same thing. Make enough dumba** comments that everyone was against us, and then tell the players that they're in a backs against the wall, us against the world sort of scenario.

I don't know whether he was doing that consciously, but it can't be any less inspiring than his speeches.

Honesty, and I thought this exact same thing and argued with people at the time over it, I don't think he had ANYTHING in mind specifically with most of his comments. There was no "plan" to get UT back on the map and in the papers. It was all as a result of him being a narcissistic fool. He screwed up and said something wrong everytime he opened his mouth. Most of the secondary violations were so mind-numbling stupid you just had to scratch your head and ask yourself "what is this guy thinking?"

It was like we got a 12 year old kid that got to play head coach for awhile and got overexcited about it.

Yeah, but this is football, not war.

Lol, it is to a certain extent, but the tactics in the football world should be handled differently IMO.

But I thought the field general should march his troops into enemy territory, being on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting the receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, and balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

Yes, the troops should march in to enemy territory, but take it out on them on the field. Dont keep running your mouth on national television on how your gonna "sing rocky top all night long" after you beat them. Go out there and PROVE it.

Now you've lost me.

Because he was our coach, and I had to convince myself that he had a plan. Like we talked about today, all he did was cast a wide net and attempt to recruit quickly and not have a long term plan. Trust me, my crow I had to eat because of last year was not cooked well and very bitter.

So I should take any of your defense or support of our current coaching staff with a grain of salt.....
