Ron Paul is in a lot of hot water. He's doing his own tweets now, and I admit that he's been a little insensitive:

Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that ‘he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.’ Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn’t make sense.

My interpretation -

Paul is lamenting the US policy of perpetual war, and that one way or another war ruins our boys that we send out to do battle.

I believe it's in bad taste because:

1) He's using this tragic death to make a political point.
2) The last sentence sounds snarky. It's too light-hearted and it's the part that bothers me most about what he said.

How everybody else is interpreting it -

Twitterverse is blowing up with this quote:

That sword protected your freedom. Guess since I lived by the sword I deserved to get murdered as well?

People have responded that RP deserves to be murdered, etc. I knew people were going to treat this like the GOP version of the race card, but I don't understand why people think he was implying the death was "deserved".

Believe it or not, I heard a guy at work say that same quote today. Granted, he's a dumbass, but it surprised me, nonetheless.

Saw a lot of that and worse on the CNN posts for their article. It's ridiculous. I expect better from RP.

I agree with his tweet. PTSD should be taken seriously and treated professionally, not by firing off rounds at a range. Seems like there's too much faux outrage. I don't think it's insensitive at all. People die all of the time.

From my witness, there is usually a lot of wisdom and truth behind what Ron Paul says, even if at first glance it might seem controversial or against the grain. This man has stood up untiringly to the tyrants hour after hour, day after day, year after year, even at an age when most Americans are playing cards and golf or watching TV most of the day. If he makes one remark that you disagree with, you immediately trash the man? Who criticizing this man has done more to fight the evil system of oppression that is upon us by the government? I don’t really agree totally with his twitter remark, but I love the guy and will not desert him because he says something I disagree with.

Just my thoughts

My take is that Mr. Paul is upset with the publicity and fame that Mr. Kyle gathered by documenting his skill as a sniper. His fame led him to become an advocate for troubled veterans but ultimately also led to his murder.

If my take is correct, then I disagree with Mr. Paul. I think it is wrong to expect former military personnel to stay quiet about their experiences after they leave the military.

I agree. PTSD needs to be treated by a professional...

BUT I've read that taking up a hobby like sport shooting can help PTSD sufferers. And moreover, some PTSD sufferers also benefit from "exposure therapy" through target shooting.

So it's not outlandish to suggest that the sniper was trying to help his comrades by taking them to the range.

I got the impression from news reports that the above is true - it is not uncommon as a treatment. (I believe what I heard was hunting trips).

Insensitive but the point is valid. I hope RP starts to go off and gets increasingly blunt in his last years like the grandpa that stops caring once he gets so old.
