internet connection ?!?!?help

im living on campus in the dorm and i hook my xbox up with ethernet cable! and when logging on to xbox live it connects to the network but fail when reaching the internet??? any help??:blink::peace2:

I am no expert, but it may be a firewall. Or it may not be anything remotely close and I will look like a moron.

ah the wonders of dorm life. if it's a firewall you're dealing with(which is what it sounds like) then there's really no easy fix for it. i've had the same kind of connectivity issues the last several years in my dorm as well and have never found a consistent solution for it.

back in my dorm days, we were rockin' N64s and PS1's.... and didn't need no dern ethernet!!

Yeah I remember many druken nights with the N64. Many fun weeknights filled with Bond and WCW/NWO Revenge

So, to summarize the article - You can call and have them register your xbox's MAC address or you can buy a cheap router, clone your PCs MAC, and then hook up random machines anytime you want.

I would go the router/clone mac address route, as you might need to do some port forwarding in the future.

Expect bandwidth to be an issue during peak hours in the dorms.
