Looking towards the end of the season, I believe we will finish 7-5 or 6-6. Either way, I believe we will play in a bowl game. With that being said, it is my opinion and I believe the majority on here will agree that Dooley will not be our coach come the first week in December.

Most likely, and this is going by coaching searches from multiple schools in the past, the new coach will not be named until after the bowl game. IMO, this will be true with us whether it is Gruden or another coach who is currently taking his team to a bowl game.

My question to you Volnation, is who takes over the reigns in the event this happens as the interim head coach for the bowl game? My personal choice is Darin Hinshaw. I believe the players respond well to him and he can "manage" the day-to-day through this interim period.

I vote for Palermo. He hates talking to the press. Should make for some good comedy.

Dooley is the interim. Has been from day 1. There was very little chance he was going to be here at the end of his contract. His job was to put out the fire that Kiffin left and hopefully rebuild the team to respectability. I think he is done as much as he is ever going to do on that front.

I would guess if we fire Dooley before the season is completely over then Chaney would probably be left in charge.

I doubt we need an interim. I get the feeling this is going to play out until Feb 16th. Hart keeps things quiet and hopes Dooley wins the next 4 and has a decent/good showing in the scrub bowl. NSD class is on paper and signed as Vols. Feb. 16th Hart calls the presser and Dools is canned, Hello new coach. 1 million dollars saved and going forward into 2013 with New coach and excitement again. JMO

Better check your calendar, buyout is $5m until AFTER the 2013 season.

Correct, the original buyout decreased in February 2013, but the 1 year extension moved that out to February 2014.

Saving buyout money cannot be a factor in this decision.

When has this happened before? Not calling you out but what program has allowed a coach to recruit a class and then fired them after signing day? That is about the most unethical thing to do when offering a player and his family a chance to play for a particular university.

My uncle got arrested on a golf course for drinking tonight.

The cop asked how many beers he had, my uncle yelled FOUR!!!!!

Cheesy I know, but not as bad as this crap.

Yes, you have offered them to play for Tennessee. Coaches come and go. This is not the University of Derek Dooley.

Does not matter anyways. As posted by someone earlier, Dools contract was changed last year to keep the buyout the same through next year. I had not realized that was done. Seeing the buyout does not drop, I expect he will be fired right around the UK game.
