I’ve been rewatching the second half as I ended up having to work last night and didn’t catch everything. One thing that once again stood out was the missed pass interference calls. I’ve mentioned this before but this year is the worst I can ever remember and each game nothing changes. No consistency whatsoever.

If these refs are in position and staring at obvious pass interference and fail to call it in important situations then what is to be done. Is there really no accountability as it seems? Or does it just seem that way to most of us fans and these issues and similar are brought up and used to determine referees and their positions/job security? I really am wondering if anyone with more knowledge can offer some insight.

On that note one no call that would have infuriated me was the third down pass A&M had out of their end zone before the punt return TD. Hadden grabbed his hip and turned him as obviously as he possibly could even though it wasn’t necessary and he was in good coverage/position. Couldn’t believe they didn’t call that but then a few plays later I see an A&M db initiate a full tackle and pin our receivers arm to his stomach as he’s waiting on the ball and it made a little more sense.

I guess my point or question is what is anyone’s opinion on the state of referees in the ncaa this year? Do you notice it being worse with regards to consistency and accuracy in holding and PI calls than prior years? Do you have any reasoning as to what could be causing these issues? Is there any way to improve the quality of refereeing or is it just like death and taxes/it is what it is?

The only thing that makes sense is that they've been instructed to allow more contact and lose the flag. Might be an attempt to curb scoring? Somehow speed up the game? Smarter folks than me will have to explain how those things work by allowing WRs to be mugged.

I can't answer your valid questions with any facts, but my opinion would be this is the worst I have seen officiating. The missed calls are blatant and can be seen in real time. I havent noticed the refs being out of position either. They are usually right there watching.

I agree and that’s part of what makes it so frustrating. Most of the time it can’t be explained by the common “they can’t see everything” type of answer. Many times they are staring right at the action up close and choose to call or not to call a penalty in the most absurdly wrong direction. It’s strange to me how far things have to go before refs are ever even asked to explain themselves on calls or entire games worth of calls.

I guess the real question is ‘what does pass interference look t like this season?’ Should we just expect that holding an arm is okay? Our defense should take advantage if so.

There is no consistency either way. One set of officials call one way , the next just the opposite. Not harping on our defense, because they are definitely improved, but would still love to see our DB's get their head around during coverage. jmo

It's not just pass interference though. They are most glaring for our team obviously, but that's not it all they are missing. I watched 2 players literally drag Warren Burrell around by his face mask while pinning him down 40 yds from the play with a ref standing there watching it and do absolutely nothing.
