To Note

For the Record
• Tennessee Captains: Rod Wilks, Shane Reveiz and Dallas Thomas.
• Legend of the Game: Former Vol defensive back Inky Johnson (2004-06)
• South Carolina won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Vols are now 3-5 in pre-game coin flips this season and 1-4 when losing the toss.
• Tennessee's all-time record is now 792-345-53 (.688).
• The Vols fell to 22-6-1 all-time vs. South Carolina, including 14-2 in Knoxville.
• The home team had won the past four games in this series until tonight.

For Starters
• Justin Worley (QB), Marcus Jackson (LG), Rajion Neal (WR), Mo Couch (DT), Byron Moore (DB) made their first career starts for the Vols in the South Carolina game.
• With Worley's start vs. the Gamecocks, it became the fifth time in Tennessee history that the Vols have started three different quarterbacks in the same season.
• Worley, of course, followed Tyler Bray and Matt Simms this season for UT.
• The other seasons (and QBs) were 2004 (Schaeffer,/Ainge/R. Clausen), 2002 (C. Clausen/Leak/Banks), 2000 (Matthews/Suggs/C. Clausen) and 1994 (Colquitt/Helton/Manning).
• Justin Worley became the 14th true freshman QB to start a game this season for an NCAA D-I FBS team.
• Joining an impressive club, Worley followed in the footsteps of UT's last five rookie QB starters: Peyton Manning (1994), Casey Clausen (2000), Brent Schaeffer (2004), Erik Ainge (2004) and Tyler Bray (2010).

The Offense

Worley's Debut
• Worley's first completion of note during a challenging first half was a 25-yard strike to DeAnthony Arnett with 6:21 to go in the second period. He followed that up with a 26-yarder to Arnett two minutes before the half.
• Entering today, 13 true freshmen quarterbacks had started for an NCAA D-I FBS team this season, compiling a record of 18-34.
• The only true freshman to defeat a ranked team this season is Ohio State's Braxton Miller vs. No. 16 Illinois, 17-7, on Oct. 15.

Getting Points On The Board
• Thanks to Michael Palardy's first-quarter field goal, Tennessee has not been shut out for 217 straight games, dating back to the 31-0 loss to Florida on Sept. 17, 1994.

Odds & Ends
• Tennessee's offensive line surrendered only one sack to the SEC's top sack tandem of Melvin Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney.
• DeAnthony Arnett's 26-yard reception in the first half was a career long.
• Redshirt freshman running back Jaron Toney became the 18th freshman to play this season for the Volunteers.

The Defense

Sack Race
• Tennessee tied its single-game high for sacks this season with three - all in the first half.
• Prentiss Waggner picked up his second sack of the year and his career.
• Malik Jackson has had a hand in a tackle for loss in six straight games and now has 12 1/2 career sacks after his solo effort tonight.
• Willie Bohannon notched a sack, pushing his total to 4 1/2 for his career.

Amazing A.J.
• A.J. Johnson became the first Tennessee true freshman to record three 10-plus tackle games, tallying 12 vs. South Carolina.
• Johnson moved into third place on Tennessee's all-time true freshman tackle-leaders list with 57 this season. He moved past Reggie White (51 in 1980) in the third quarter with his seventh stop of the game to hit 52. In addition to his 12 tackles vs. South Carolina, he added his second fumble recovery of the season.
• Only Eric Berry (86, 2007) and Jonathan Hefney (65, 2004) are ahead of Johnson on that freshman tackles list.

Oskie, Oskie!
• Prentiss Waggner picked off a Connor Shaw pass and returned it 54 yards to the South Carolina three-yard line. It was his first this season and the sixth of his career.
• The 54-yard return matched Waggner's career long, equaling the INT run-back he had against UT-Martin in 2010.

Couldn't Get Off The Field
• Tennessee surrendered a 20-play, 98-yard drive that consumed 11:35 of the third quarter. The number of plays and duration were season highs by an opponent, and the yardage ranked behind the 99 LSU went in 16 plays in 8:44 on Oct. 15.

Special Teams

Making Plays
• John Propst tallied his first career fumble recovery in the first quarter, falling on a muffed punt by South Carolina's Ace Sanders.
• Rod Wilks made his team-leading seventh special teams tackle.

Palardy Update
• With his 22-yard field goal in the first quarter, Michael Palardy booted his fifth in a row. The streak came to an end later in the period when his 47-yarder try was deflected. He now has converted on nine of 13 attempts this season.

Good stuff SpringBok, thanks.

AJ is really coming on strong, shame his stellar performance has been overshadowed.

AJ is a real game changer and is the type of LB this team needs for the next couple of years.

Him and Maggitt are going to dominate defenses. Going to be fun to watch.

Guys, as these notes attest too, all is not lost on this season...the O-line is playing better every week, the Defense is getting better in areas (we need to work on getting of the field fellas...3 and out please!!!)...I really feel the BIGGEST thing missing from this team right now is a true on-field leader for the offense...hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later, or it will be tough sledding against Arky and Vandy...thanks again for the notes and keep up the awesome work SB.

Time for a reality check for the Vol Nation...

First, you guys just ain't that good. Bottom of the SEC East and will more than likely stay there for a while.

Before yall explode on me hear me out.

Between Fulmer and Lane Freaking Kiffin, yall lost momentum in the SEC recruiting battle. That's not something that can be overcome in one or two years. Case in point, when Spurrier came to South Carolina everyone thought within one or two years we would be where we are at now -- 7 years later. It takes time and by the way, the top recruits yall ain't getting are going to South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and so on. The game don't stop while yall try to rebuild. These kids don't know about the Vols of yesteryear, only now, and what they see is a team that can't compete. The result is they go elsewhere. It's a vicious cycle that's hard to get out of.

My next point. You guys knew when Spurrier was hired at SC that this day was coming. He owned Tennessee at Florida and unfortunately for yall, it looks like he will continue for the foreseeable future to own yall.

Respect. We thumped yall for two years running. Get used to it and give us some respect. When is the last time yall beat SC, FLA, and GA in the same year. Not to even mention the cupcake out of conference schedule yall play (Buffalo and Montana, geesh). Its been awhile.

The power has shifted. SC and GA will be the dominate teams in the East for a while. I know you folks keep saying "But we are a young team and when these Sophomores are Seniors we will be great." Well here's a bit of insight, ours will be too. Again, once you are down, it's hard to get back up.

I know this will pi$$ a lot of you off but it's the truth. It is what it is. You guys will get better, but it will take time. In the mean time, good luck to the Vols and don't think yall are gonna come to our House next year and not take another spanking.

GO COCKS!!!!

We are fine in recruiting.rivals 13th class, in front of sc.I would not call a 14-3 win a "thumping". If we wouldve capitalized on the 3 turnovers we wouldve beat yall. And the interceptions were on our freshman Qb, not your D.

As for a "power" shift, SC looks average at best.
Moronic 4th post.

SC was the East's champ last year.. but there were about 5 teams in the west that were better. That was SC's best season in just about forever, and you still went 9-4.

He is a beast...but he is slow for the outside. He's also to young to be the leader in the middle, but he'll get there if not placed on the line at some pt. At the same time he's to darn good to keep him off the field, so that's why he is where he is.

The USCjr guy needs a reality check and act "like he's been there before." Some of his pts were understandable as it does take time to rebuild that's why I'm not on the "fire Dooley" bandwagon. He'll get us there once he's able to build depth behind our current players. When I mean depth I mean top caliber SEC depth. We have starters, by default, that wouldn't be 2nd stringers on the top teams in the SEC. It's what Dooley was handed. Once he does that, and has the room to develop properly with redshirts and other things then we will be back on top again.

I'm certain he's the guy to do it, and I'm sure he has a detailed plan written out. When Hart was hired he probably just handed him his plan, and Hart just said okie dokie smokey....

First, you are an Fing moron.

It is a recurring thread everyweek of INTRESTING FACTS TO NOT. No one has commited any of the accusations you implied in this thread.

Yes, MOST of us understand how recruiting works, thank you for paraphrasing "Football Recruiting for Dummies". Great book when I was in middle school.

We started a freshman 3* QB and you beat us by eleven points, plus, we didn't convert on 1st and goal on the 2, and botched a 37 yard FG attempt. So by no means did you "own us". And you have another thing coming if you think you are gonna roll over us next year. You are just looking for praise and you're a fan, "GOD I WISH I WAS THAT GUY"

Buffalo and Montana? Yes because Coastal Carolina ownssssss them.

If you are going to come to a Vols forum site, post your little praise crave rant somewhere that isn't an informative thread, take your head out of your ass when you try to conversate with people, and get back to me in a year. Now gtfo.
