Interesting theory about our OC position.

Sarkisian was still considered a free agent at Bama for awhile. The real reason why Saban kicked Kiffin and made Sark OC was to shut out schools who may have been pushing to hire him. I believe TN was one of them.

I see Merit in this way of thinking, not as much Tenn as somebody else with more to offer.. AND I now sure hope BAMA NOW wins just not to make Kiffin look good.. Bama loses and Kiffin is the smart one with all the brains??

And Saban just hired a bugger eater...

Sark was hired to replace Lane all along.

Yes, and not so sure that Saban didn't know this by the time Sark came on board. Wouldn't be surprised if the AL/Saban plan is to let Lane go "sink or swim" as mid major coach for a few years, and when Saban retires, Kiffen comes back as "hot commodity". Ultimately, character flaws would be the downfall for Lane and Bama.

Not a chance. Everyone in the coaching profession knew that Sark would be the OC at Alabama in 2017 as long as he stayed sober.

This was always going to be Kiffin's final season at Alabama.

when it comes to offense, that is how Butch operates. Why I don't see it being Helfrich..

So you think Butch may have played Helfrich all along? I know just a few days ago your confidence that it will be Helfrich seemed fairly high. Maybe Butch realized Helfrich may not be as obedient as Coach Debord was in running the Jones' offense?

Jimmy Cheek would have wanted Sark for sure.

The camera should have turned away. Who wants to watch a grown man eat booger?

Didn't Harbaugh eat a booger too.

There is no way in the world I could ever feel good about a booger eater in charge.

Good grief!

Any chance that Butch could be relaxing with this mentality a little bit while trying to save face?..making it seem that someone like Helfrich, who isn't as perfect of a fit sound like a fit?

just not a fit.. I think Butch would have a very hard time hiring someone outside his realm of comfort. probably going to be someone he works with or has worked with... becomes even harder if the person had been a head coach and ran things their way. JMO

oh, Helfrich talk has been strong for a month. they talked in last week and talk has died down..

I don't think so

Would Calvin McGee be a possibility? I know his history is mainly with WRs and not QBs like Butch talked about.

Saban's influence to get Kiffin a HC job at FAU to keep him away from OC at LSU does make sense to me.

That is depressing. He needs to hire the best possible people to do the job he hired them to do, and then he needs to get the hell out of the way.

to be fair, one can't tell if it is the best person until they perform. Bringing in Helfrich could end up a disaster. No way to know.. Promoting Scott could end up great or a disaster. no sure things

I believe TN was one of them.

And what makes you come to that conclusion? Do you realize Tennessee could have hired him for about $35K themselves (reportedly bama is paying him $30K)

Saban has a track record of hiring former head coaches who have been fired, he's also been hiring coaches with West Coast ties recently. Bama threw out a small salary to him, a place to sleep and a chance to be busy. I haven't seen Tennessee do that in the past with Butch, Phil, John or anyone as head coach....

Lane called a crappy game against Washington and Saban probably ripped him a new one and Kiffin, no longer caring what happens to Bama, said see ya. That's the most plausible explanation imo.

you know....everyone keeps saying Lane called a crappy game without giving one inkling to the notion that maybe, just maybe UW D played a great game.....they were the #16 D after all.

I just don't think UA's O has been "all that" this year. That D is phenomenal and has beaten virtually everyone else into submission - 21% of their scoring this year has been NOTD's....if I did the guzintas right.

This.

Saban was probably getting sick of Kiffin well before this week and saw a perfect opportunity to capitalize with Sarkisian getting fired .

Saban stashes Steve Sarkisian and Jones stashes Nick Sheridan. Not hard to figure out why Bama is where they are at and the Vols are where they are.

Saban has an unlimited budget. Makes a big difference.

DeerPark12 do you believe Blackburn will be the AD still as LWS believes? Thank you both for info, not many insiders left on here. I wish UT wouldn't be delaying this at the most critical time. The thought of Gilbert makes me sick- should just keep Hart if you are hiring him.
