Interesting Stat

Well, having watched our games, it really doesnt surprise me that we are dead last. Our defense is like a bunch of keystone cops running about.

On the one hand, that is not play calling - but on the other, that IS a coaching failure. Getting kids to wrap up and have the fire in their belly to fight for the stop. I have to admit there were several times it felt like they were just jogging through the motions. How could a coach not be going full Lee Ermy in that player's face?

I am watching game day and saw a stat that just blew my mind. We are last in the SEC in missed tackles.

103 MISSED TACKLES SO FAR THIS SEASON & WE HAVE GIVEN UP OVER 1,300 YARDS AFTER CONTACT.

I know we are struggling on defense but I didn't realize it was this bad.
I heard during the KY game it was 200+ yards, an extra games worth of yards

John Chavis and Sal Sunseri are the only two people on the planet who are pleased with our defense.

I don't see how the Vols defense players are not completely humiliated.

I would be playing like a maniac tonight just to prove everyone wrong about us

I don't see how the coaches are not humiliated. You'd think they would be asking themselves what can we do to improve this.

I'm sure they have, but again... the players are the ones out there missing tackles and blowing assignments.

I don't disagree that it starts with the leadership.

Thus just in
Our Lb’s are slow and DB’s are terrible.

It's hard to understand how we went from a juggernaut last year to abysmal this year. Key injuries appear to be part of the issue but can't be the whole story. I don't think it would shock anyone to see staff changes at the end of the season.

We are playing LOTS of freshmen DBs. We are seeing the growing pains. Hopefully we get better each week. Playing experience will be a positive next season.
They knew McCoy was hurt in January. They chose to go light in the portal and only bring in Hood as the lone defensive portal contributor.

So we have one injury that happened that they didn’t have all offseason to prepare for. One injury shouldn’t cause all this.

We werent counting on losing Gibson to injury back in January though. We also thought Jourdan Thomas would be ready to go this year. We also werent counting on losing Jakobe Thomas to Miami in the spring portal. Oh and we also lost Christian Charles to Virgina in the portal in spring. Oh, and we also lost Jordan Matthews to Vanderbilt. So, no. It wasn't just one DB. It was several!

One thing this staff does need to re evaluate is how we are paying our DB's because clearly other teams are paying a higher premium than we are.

To anyone who sees this post and wants to fire Tim Banks you need to ask yourself some serious questions. First, do you think our defensive players just learned how tot ankle once the got to college? I mean seriously. I played pee wee, middle school and HS football. Tackling is one of the most basic and fundamental things taught at a young age. So are our defensive coaches teaching the guys NOT to tackle? The same coaches that last year coached a top 10 nationally ranked defense?

Don’t think so. The bottom line is these players have to want it. They have to want to be great and have to want that fire in them. That’s not coachable. You either have it or you don’t. And it seems like many of our defensive guys don’t have it.

So you know better than the coaches that there were sure fire, 100% upgrades in the portal? Oh that’s right you didn’t. Don’t for get Gibson got injured as well. That’s your two starting CBs.

Gibson is the one injury I was referring to. McCoy happened at a time when you could have gotten a transfer.

I know for a fact there was someone better than Redmond who could have been had, yes.

Seems impossible that our Defensive talent is this bad.

I was speaking only to the injuries, since that’s the excuse the pumpers give Willie and Banks. The number of transfers out compared to only bringing in Hood, when your best guy (McCoy) was also unlikely to play much, just further illustrates how horribly the DB situation was managed this year.

Yep. But I saw a player can’t remember who and he said they got to tackle better!!
