And no doubt intended for the ears of many on here and other boards...

"So I did take a little bit of a risk. I took the head coaching job at Louisiana Tech, and I'm grateful to them for the opportunity they gave me. It was a program that had been struggling, it was a program that hadn't made a lot of investment in football, and I'm very proud of what we did in three years. And while I'm sure had I stayed with Nick, then I might be a more popular candidate for this job now, I am certain that I'm a better and more qualified candidate by doing what I did the last three years."

I am very cautiously optimistic. His resume is at least as impressive as his predecessor's. He appears as driven and focused. He isn't going to run his mouth, and as much as that fired us up sometimes under the former regime, it also fired up our opponents and drew conference and NCAA ire. Coach Dooley may boom here or bust, but he'll get a fair shot from me.

Great post. I too will give him the fair shot he deserves. I liked him after 2 minutes of listening to him. Good luck Coach Dooley and I'll see you in August!!!

I could not agree with you more and believe we will be okay. It may not be next year but I am still very confident about 2011.

GBO and welcome CDD!

So many fans wanted a BIG name coach, and I admit I did too. That being said, I watched the press conference and was very impressed with the man. Every coach that is a big name coach started somewhere to build that name. In the coming days let's just see how he handle's the recruits and the kind of coaching staff he puts together. That will tell us a lot about where we are headed. All I'm saying is wait to see some of his decision's before we judge too harshly about this hire.

I wanted a big-name coach. But the circumstances just weren't favorable to it. We don't know what Dooley will do but looking at what he has done he has as much upside as his predecessor. He was impressive at the presser, and he is genuinely respected by Nick Saban, who certainly know how to win at the college level. I'm looking forward to next few years.

One thing to look at his not only his resume but his experience at his age. Look at this...

He's 41 now...

In 2000 Saban hires as TE coach and Head recruiter....31 years old!

In 2001 LSU won the SECC game beating Tennesse

In 2003-2004 he was Head recruiter, RB Coach and Special Teams....34 years old!

In 2004 LSU won the SECC game and defeated No#1 OU in the Sugar Bowl

In 2005 he goes with Saban and is TE coach for Miami Dolphins....36 years old!

In 2007 he's a HC and AD for a college, only one holding both titles at once....40 years old!

Took the road less traveled... as opposed to the one his daddy made.
This guy is the anti-kiffin and I'll bet he can recruit to boot.

He seems like a better fit for Tennessee, i'm looking past the record and focusing more on his resume. Still a risk, but i already like his attitude better than the flake we just had.

He'll restore some respect and won't have every coach around gunning for him.

CDD will be for us , what his father is for UGA.
He does not want to follow his dad back there. He said it himself. CDD is his own man.
He will be a great coach for Tennessee.

The question still is are we a "stepping stone" job. If in few years Georgia comes calling do we get left out in the cold again?

Never say never, but I do not believe so. CDD wants his own legacy not a shadow of his fathers.

IF that happens we will have to deal with it. Life is uncertain.

But the fact is he did not play at Georgia--and this says something about his character to me. He doesn't want to be Vince Jr, he wants to be himself. If he makes this work under very difficult circumstances he is probably going to be more a Vol at heart than he ever was a Dawg. If he was in love with UGA he likely would have went there to play.

Yeah, so I guess there are two different ways to take this... personally, I find it strange that he made this apology.

This will not be a stepping stone job unless the fans turn it into one. DD will not use it as one. He has no desire to coach at UGA He will be as loyal to UTK as we allow. Loyalty works both ways. He is here and is here to stay. Now lets let him do his job and quit worrying about when he maybe gone.

He will not leave he is more interested in building the Dooly legency in the SEC not just at GA and that is not his focus. A man like this builds a football family. We think and talk it but this program has not had a family of fans, players and coaches since I hate to say Battle, Dickey and Neyland.

It isn't an apology. It's an explanation.

Again, have no idea how things will turn out. But don't sell this guy short.

And, like it or not, he is our coach now. So I sure as hell know how I hope it turns out.

He didn't play at Georgia, and he only spent one year as a coach, his first year as a graduate assistant under Ray Goof.

Georgia hasn't exactly done right by his father in recent years, either. It's well known that Vince has a very poor relationship with the administration there.

I'm sure, if Richt doesn't work out long-term and Dooley is winning for us, there will be a lot of people at Georgia who will want to go after him. But I suspect he doesn't lust after his dad's old job the way our last coach did toward USC.
