Looks like Chandlers darn quick the way he ran past the GA defenders. Get him the ball down field

Surely these OL have been told to go hit somebody instead of standing around. If the OL isn’t following orders put them on the bench! If they aren’t being taught then shame on the coaches.

Botch wanted undersized, quicker OL. That stuff works in the MAC. Not in the SEC. Mahoney had no idea what he has doing. We dont have many true SEC caliber OL.
Sure enough because that can work in the RPO and spread sets that Butch liked to run but now we're screwed having them adapt back to power running scheme. They'll get there after some growing pains and a couple of good recruiting classes. I think at the moment T.Smith, J.Carvin, and C.Hall can play in the SEC. #58 J.Johnson is undersized but fast and does well as a pulling guard. Losing Kennedy was a set-back. He may be back next year.

They are too damn slow to get to a play down or across the field!! (also I don't think they want to,,, don't seem to have much want to)

I don't think Ole Miss has a great Oline, but they have some good offense stats in conference. It's their D that ranks near the cellar. But they are subject to throwing the homerun passes on any play. Their QB just throws it upfield and they have several receivers who are capable of running under it. Their little skeeter RB isn't as good as our RBs, but defenses can't afford to crowd the LOS on them because of their long ball threat so it makes their running game better too. If defenses crowd them, they get burned. Even though we know our OLine is struggling, it might take some of the pressure off if we could throw it downfield more. Might keep them from stacking the box so much on us, which hampers both the short game and the run game. Just a thought.

A nasty lineman that could help us out was unfortunately wearing red and starting on Saturday.

I agree that throwing the deep ball stretches the field. That is fact and cant be disputed. The problem with that, especially when we dont have a dominant "go up and get it everytime" receiver is that we are only going to complete a deep post route with our personnel AT BEST 1 in 3 times...and what happens the other 2 times? 3 and out...always..so we gave up an offensive possession, twice, in hopes of MAYBE having the defense back off of their press man coverage. This team never converts starting from 2nd and 10. Then there is the risk of interceptions as well, sacks and fumbles, and injured QBs . We cant stretch the field until we get much more talent on offense. We just dont havethe horses, sadly. We are definitely making strides on the defensive side ofthe ball least

If Doug is just now noticing a lack of effort and hustle, he’s been asleep a long time

I can't dispute that. It's a dilemma, a real conundrum.

Agree with the observation, but I would extend it to everyone on the field at all times. Good defenders continue chasing even if it looks like it may be too late. They may get blocked, but they don't stay blocked. Watch Bama, everyone keeps their motor running until the whistle blows - every play.

Calbert,l and Hall are two Butch recruits that definitely have SEC size. Neither are playing much at all. In fact, Pruitt has played his undersized guy, Johnson, and he's been horrible. I can't recall seeing Brooks get a shot. I would have Hall and Calbert at guard and see what they can do.

The offense has been a disappointment. I thought we really looked good at RB, WR, and TE before the season began. QB was questionable but JG has done an adequate job considering his protection. The OL has been terrible and is and will be the reason this offense can't succeed. We need a lot of OL that can and want to play immediately next season. Beating out most of the present guys should be easy for anyone wanting to play early.

Our TE play, once again is the weakest unit wearing Vols football uniforms IMO. Buddy Ryan's famous quote concerning how great All Pro RB Wilbert Montgomery was during his first year as the Philadelphia Eagles HC, he said something akin to, "He can't run, block, break a tackle, or catch a pass, other than that he's a great running back." That's about where this group of Vol TEs are based on what I've watched to date. Pathetic may be too kind.
