Interesting look at SEC starting lineups by star ranking

Lot of folks will disagree but I feel after a season of drills, film study, coaching and strength training those stars don't mean squat.
There should be some kind of bonus points for previous year performances, (Tillman, Hooker ) . bumped….at least be 4 stars, or 5 stars no PT (subtracted). be interesting to play with….who is coaching up/developing their players. Quality counts, but so does player development. I see both points

Yeah I don’t even see how that is possible. TAMU has had 1 #1 recruiting class.

Well, if it's just starters it could be simply an error in projected starters or a former walk on QB that beat out 3 kids that were either 4 or 5 stars. Another example would be that UGA lost a 5 star OG on the first series last yr and a 3 star filled in and played well. If you project the 3 star to hold the position then the starter ratings would be skewed by 2 stars if the 5 star player retakes his position.

This chart is very interesting info but imo the bottom line comes down to quality depth that pushes each highly ranked player to put it on the line every day. For example, if a 5 star player at TAMU comes in and cruises to a starting position, is he better than a 3 star kid at Bama that came in and beat out 2 or 3 higher ranked kids at his position.

Yah, this might put to rest the folks who like to say, "LSU and Florida totally outclass us in talent, people are crazy to think we're ready to challenge them yet."

Of course this is just the starters. Our starters are as good as anybody not named Bama-UGa-A&M. Our problem last year was lack of depth.

That will still be a bit of a problem this season, we're not full up yet, but it will be a WHOOOOOOLE LOT better in 2022 than it was in 2021. No more petering out in the 4th quarter, in most games.

Our lads can stand toe to toe with anyone. They should expect to win. Every. Single. Friggin. Game.

[ok, maybe not two of them, but don't tell the team that]

Go Vols!

First off, I haven't seen too many people argue that we can't challenge LSU or Florida, only that overall they have more talent than we do, which is still the case. Your second paragraph is the key. We have good starters we just don't have the depth some other teams do, including LSU and Florida (to a lesser extent than Bama and Georgia). We CAN beat LSU and Florida this year, I just don't think we should lose hope in Heupel if we don't. Wait for the 247 talent composite (which does this for the whole roster) to come out, it's usually about a week before the season. I guarantee LSU and Florida will be as far or farther ahead of us than we are ahead of say South Carolina or Kentucky, who many think we should ride down like wet grass because of our talent edge. Truth is most SEC teams have a good first 22 every year, it's after that where the difference is made. I think we probably win 8 or maybe 9 this year, and no one should be disappointed with that. If they are, they just aren't looking at rosters realistically. I will watch the Bama and Georgia games because you never know what can happen but Bama signed 15 top 100 players last year (their freshman class) and Georgia signed 12, we signed 0, there are 4-5 classes on all 3 campuses with that sort of disparity, we've got a long way to go to get beyond a puncher's chance of beating those two.

Rivals.com - SEC Spotlight: Stacking up the starting lineups by star ranking
I just wanted to add one additional point about these rankings. of this is a ranking of the total stars in each team's starting lineup only, I hope the people that put together these rankings inform each coach the listing of players in his starting lineup. Rather than truly being a ranking of the talent on each team's starting lineup, my guess is that this ranking is generated assuming that the highest star-rated player at each position is included in the starting lineup regardless of class and position on the depth chart.
