In the past three games, UT’s first-team defense has taken the field six times behind the opponent’s 45-yard line — and five of the six drives started on the Vols’ half of the field.

None of those six drives gained a first down.

Twenty-three plays. Sixteen yards. No touchdowns. Three field-goal attempts. Two field-goal makes. Two stops on downs. One punt.

Six points.

it's a shame the D is giving up big plays here and there. That's all most people will remember, but they really are playing well. Minimize mistakes in special teams & on D and we whip georgia ass.

But we need to fire Wilcox he can't handle SEC offenses!! Seriously though the people on here who say that are idiots its not his fault that the young guys are blowing coverages he can't hold their hand every play this is the damn SEC you gotta know your assignments.

I like Wilcox, but he's only seen one SEC offense this season.

And the fact Florida only scored 33 with the field position they had all game is pretty incredible. Take away that one blown assignment vs Rainey and we did a very very good job.

Cincinatti is still a high powered offense. Before Collaros got hurt last year, they were averaging over 30 points including 29 against Oklahoma. You take away the garbage time touchdown they had against us, we held them to 17 which is really good.

You have to admit that this is light years better than last year, we can easily see a difference which is a good thing.

Oh I wasn't trashing Wilcox. Just saying I'm excited to see what comes out in October.

The OP said last three games, not this season. I know only 1/3 of that was SEC offense, but, as we have seen, Cincy is no slouch on offense. I know stats don't mean anything either, but Wilcox seems to be doing a pretty good job considering what he is working with. If we give him time, IMHO, Tennessee's defense will be a force to be reckoned with.

How long was Wilcox at BSU before he got the players he needed? I think he will be fine but the jury is still out and I agree with that. Give this coaching staff time and then make a judgment. This is year 1, not year 2, remember that.

Not to mention, the players we are bringing in should be way more talented than any of the players he had at boise state

We will be fine with some maturity.Just remember this young team will grow.Be patient fellow VOLS we are witnessing something special in Bray and the rest of the youth movement.Cherish while you can.I took Peyton and the 90s for granted while I had season tix and regret not soaking up all I could.I am now.I honestly believe that Bray and company will grow into what we want,GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I think our defense is doing a good job despite the lack of quality depth and SEC calibur players.

D-line seems like a question mark every year, but I have to say that they are more than holding their own so far - I'm impressed

The experience this year will pay off. There is a chance the defense could be nasty next year.

That's pretty ridiculous. Take away a big play or two or four and we have a defense to be reckoned with.

Maybe this is the week we see more blitzing to create pressure on the QB. We have been conservative due to the youth at DB and the fear of giving up the big play. Hold em to FGs and we win going away.
