Interesting Comments From Dave Van Horn and Chris Low

It seems quite odd to me that a direct employee of Tennessee baseball would be cool with his father making insinuations. I guess I’m one who says “why” and without proof, I just don’t get it. Doesn’t mean there wasn’t lots of friction, but I don’t get it.
I’ve never worked in journalism but spent almost forty years in technical engineering services. So possibly an unqualified professional opinion, but as a journalist with connections within an athletic department, would you not paint delicately with a broad brush? He addressed the issue as he saw fit. I was grateful. 🤙🏼

I certainly didn’t say he was a “two-bit shock jock journalist.” Nothing even close to what I said. If he has a story and has specifics, then I will certainly listen. Insinuations by him without specific, tangible proof don’t give me any incentive to believe.
Settle down. I never said you said he was a hack. I'm only emphasizing his role in the media as someone who isn't prone to running with rumor. He has enough cache to say something and you either believe it or you don't. He doesn't need to provide proof in a case like this, and providing proof only undermines the source from which it came. He wasn’t reporting this as "news" so much as he was simply speaking with authority on the topic in an unofficial sense.

As was stated, his son is on staff. Low knows what has gone on behind closed doors, perhaps more than any other member of the media. Knowing and understanding his credentials and connections should be proof enough that he knows what he's talking about. He doesn't necessarily need to show you, me, or anyone else the smoking gun.

Regardless of what was said, or not said, or even why, I don't think any of us can deny that there was some tension between the baseball program and the athletic director.

Chris Low trying to claim himself as an insider without having any evidence of troubles within. Tony is a fiery guy and he’s not always going to agree with everything being done. Low makes a living trying to “outscoop” his competition. If he had anything, he would surely provide such information.
He absolutely would NOT provide any details if they were provided by “off the record“ conversations or by his family. Low is a pro.

I’m just not a very smart guy, Chuckie. You can blame my genes for my comments.
It’s been a tough day. I love ya volfan. I hate it when I’m distracted with a loss to uK. The SoftVols did muster a great start down at Clearwater.

Genes: 🧬
I have always been a bell bottom kinda guy. I remember Mom sewing flowered print material to the hem of my jeans! It was too kewl!

I don’t blame TV one bit. I know it’s not exactly the same, but I coach club baseball at a D1 school. Coaching college kids is already enough as it is. You add in agents and contracts and I wouldn’t be surprised any young coach would take the opportunity. He won a natty here, nothing left to prove. Good for him

I was hoping he'd stay long enough to be our Augie Garido and build a dynasty

I know Low is a pro. I just choose to believe Tony and what he said when asked if there was a conflict between he and White. As simple as that.
I get it but Tony is a pro as well and isn’t going to throw Danny White under the bus “on the record”. There’s no doubt in my mind that CTV and DW had a less than congenial relationship. They are 2 completely opposite personalities that likely clashed early and often. With that said, I don’t see CTV turning down the Giants regardless of their relationship.

If Chris Low writes something, you can take it to the bank that it’s accurate IMHO. His integrity is solid.

Agreed. I think if TN hadn’t won a natty, CTV would likely be UT’s head coach today. Call me naive, but I think he wanted to accomplish that feat before leaving college baseball. Winning a natty made the decision so much easier….yet, he was still torn!

Tony was never turning down the Giants even if him and DW were best friends
It really is this simple. We want to embellish and dramatize this thing BUT you nailed the proverbial head! It WAS TV’s chance…just like DVH said…and the he took it. Soap operas generally air midday for a reason 🤷‍♂️.

I don't know that we can even confirm that there was tension between the two. What we can be quite confident in is that they did not have a close personal relationship.

I think his problem was dealing with recruits/parents wanting more money to play and situations never being settled so you can make a plan and move forward as a team. Now there is the looming portal for anyone who made a deal and suddenly doesn't like that deal. Then you have to re-recruit most of the players on the team if they are all 5 star type players. Everyone is after them. I don't see how coaches deal with it.
