Interesting comment from the JP show

Mays looked like he was still playing for Georgia. He isn’t ready to be a starter on this team. He was solely responsible for the strip sack and several pressures.

I wouldn't go with a "throw away" year but eligibility doesn't count (yes I know many will leave "early" anyway), it's a 10 game sec season, no OOC, almost no one is getting fired because each school is having to deal with covid differently. Vanderbilt just had to cancel a game. We could have an outbreak and UT have to cancel a few games. Heck, JG could have to be quarantined and miss games.

Okay, first of all, thank you for answering. I do appreciate it.

That being said, I do disagree that no one is getting fired (albeit you did say almost no one) ... to the contrary, in a 10 game SEC schedule, or any other all conference schedules, their is nowhere to hide. No cupcakes to pad the numbers. It is the perfect measuring stick for each and every program to see where they really stand within their conference among their peers (as it were). I think coaches that don't produce will be in danger of being fired just like any other year.

Anyway, it's not a point worth disputing. I was just mainly trying to figure out if I was understanding folks right when they talked about a mulligan season, a throw away year, or that it didn't matter what happened, or several other things I've seen thrown out on the board. Thanks for the reply.

Recruiting? There are no mulligans in recruiting. Even with a top 10-15 class we're falling further behind the UGA/Bama/UFs of the conference. We need to show progress and we were....until Saturday. Letting UGA humiliate us like that didn't show recruits that we're "closing the gap" vs the big boys, and we'll be competing for championships anytime soon. It was simply a bad loss. Still opportunities to be had so we can't pull the plug on the season just yet.
I’m right there with you, it was terrible. On the other hand we did astronomically better than Auburn did just the week before. I mean hell, we atleast scored a touchdown. So we got that going for us

Saw this and was curious what volnation thought of this comment. The exchange happens about the 40:30 mark between Bob and Pruitt.

Bob: “Coach even though you were outplayed in the third quarter, your still very much in this football game going into the fourth.”

Pruitt: “Yeah absolutely. We struggled offensively, I thought defensively we played pretty good. Now I’m looking at the film, you know, we got to make a personnel change to make us a little better and we’ll be ok.”

Bob: “But at this point in time you just need a break, you just got to get a score to really get closer in the game don't you?”

Pruitt: ”Yeah, we need to move the ball offensively.”

JPS #3 Georgia

Now we all know that JG will be the QB for the Vols for the next twenty years, so who is Pruitt taking about here? Is it a defensive player or an offensive player? If you watch the whole show he was upset about some of the broken coverages. Pruitt is a defensive guy and might have the mentality that a great defense can overcome any offensive shortcomings. Or maybe was he talking about an O-lineman, WR, RB?

What do you all think?

“>A< Personnel change” to me means a coach, especially when he says and “and we will be ok”. One player change is not going to fix all that happened. One coaching change will help “we” the team. That said, not sure that comment should have been made. Considering that, maybe he just meant subbing a player at the right time on that play.

If I was correct about the personnel change being a coach, the only coach I can think of that makes sense is Friend. This is his 3rd year. Can’t get any rushing yards. Passing yards. Our OL is full of experienced players with 4 & 5 stars.

I just don’t think it is JG. JG was playing lights out until our OL fell apart. I would have liked to have seen ANY QB play well with that little of time to do squat.

During JGs interview, he said it was one of his last chances to beat Georgia.

What does that mean? He thinks we might play Georgia in the playoffs or he's planning on coming back next year?

If you bench JG because he's costing you games and try one of the young guys who is your future, that will have almost zero affect on recruiting.
I'm strictly talking about eligibility. You get half a year's worth of games under the backup QB who is most likely starting next year anyway. They aren't winning the East with JG so move on to the future now instead of waiting a year.
Who knows, could turn out to be a great move. You know exactly what you get with JG.

Actually we learned last year you really don’t. He’s the most consistently inconsistent QB I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Even then it seems that his WRs or RBs bail him out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an improvised play from him. And as many games he’s played you’d think he’d be a Top 5 QB in the UT history but nobody could make an argument for that with a straight face. I’m long past hating on him. At some point you accept him for who he is... and then move on. Most of us are there. Some aren’t. The bad thing is one of those that hasn’t is the head coach.

Btw I agree with pretty much everything you said

I agree. We may still have lost the game but mistakes and the play-calling is what caused us to get blown out imo.
Chaney was pretty limited in what he could call. JG was severely limited, the Oline was terrible. You can’t run the ball when Georgia is blowing through the line. Penalties also put us in situations where we were limited in our choices. If you have no Oline you have no offense.

I know, but when your current game-plan ain't working, perhaps it's time to throw in the kitchen sink. You're already losing the game at that point so what else do you have to lose? Maurer has legs and an arm. Hyatt and Holiday have speed. Pruitt said himself they don't play scared. Ok, well show it. Ya never know unless you try.

We will see come Saturday who he was talking about or if it was just lip service..............

I think he was talking about shamburger. He made this comment right after Shamburger left that player wide open across the middle near our goal line. Pruitt is a Defensive guy, DB specialist coach.

I think Pruitt is furious with Shamburgers poor play. Bob said earlier in the show “isn’t it good to hv Shamburger back on the field coach?”

And Pruitt said “well he needs to be playing a lot better.” Very sarcastically.

He definitely is going to bench a few players from this game the way he was talking about 3-4 guys not trying their hardest....

These are players who could get benched for their backups: (or drop on depth chart)

1. Shamburger
2. Wayne Morris
3. Darnell Wright
4. TEs - need to find someone to catch and block
5. Ty Chandler - didn’t appear to try hard imo

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case.
I hope he makes some changes to get their attention.
ZERO positions should be safe from being benched when they have a piss poor performance........

I think bob should be fired immediately. He’s a damn disaster area, always has been.

Honestly? I think it was a stupid observation by Bob. If you are getting outplayed in the third, you are not very much in this football game. Your position groups need to be talking to their coordinators and position coaches, and figure out why the damn game is slipping away before it finally does. You make corrections and dominate, you do not tell yourself you are in the game when it is slipping through your fingers. Does Bob know the difference between an ear pad and a jock strap?

When you have a QB with a history of not being very accurate , the defense can and will load the box and bring the house.
