If you bench JG because he's costing you games and try one of the young guys who is your future, that will have almost zero affect on recruiting.
I'm strictly talking about eligibility. You get half a year's worth of games under the backup QB who is most likely starting next year anyway. They aren't winning the East with JG so move on to the future now instead of waiting a year.
Who knows, could turn out to be a great move. You know exactly what you get with JG.

The really unfortunate fact that we Vol fans don't like hearing is that when the Alabamas, Georgias, and Floridas of the world have competent coaching and administration, it is really difficult for Tennessee to do well even if we have competent coaching and administration. All of those schools have inherent recruiting advantages over Tennessee.

It isn't a coincidence that 2 of those schools were down (Georgia and Alabama) during our glory years, and it isn't a coincidence that our program started to decline once Georgia and Florida replaced Donnan and Zook with Richt and Urban respectively. We actually don't recruit against Alabama directly as much as some might think, but having the Saban there doesn't help a lot either (I think Saban at Alabama hurts Auburn and LSU more than it hurts us though). Kirby, despite whatever shortcomings he might have with in-game decision-making, is an incredible recruiter.

This is completely true and not getting enough attention. These are veteran running backs that are completely failing to pick up blitzers. I can't remember ever seeing running backs block this poorly. They also are not finishing runs very well this year. I'm past the point of thinking Chandler needs to lose his snaps.

ratings are interesting...if I use the 5 star ratings on Rivals then we only have three five star players on the rooster where Georgia has 16...

No doubt about this. Guess Pruitt could get on two sides of it. 1) Need KY win, so maybe he feels JG best chance to do that w/o turn overs (that argument not holding much water after Sat...and maybe final JG audition to keep job. 2) 2020 is kinda a throw away year in some sense, so get the Frosh in there and get him ready for 2021.

“I’m sick to my stomach,” he said after the game. “This was one of my last opportunities versus Georgia and I couldn’t get the job done with the win. I wish I could get this one back and change some things, but the game’s over.”

It seems he plans to return next year.

If you watch the whole show he was upset about some of the broken coverages. Pruitt is a defensive guy and might have the mentality that a great defense can overcome any offensive shortcomings. Or maybe was he talking about an O-lineman, WR, RB?

Likely all of the positions you point out. Maybe a coach, like OL coach who is said to have the players to be a great line.

The QB was NOT the issue. JG played a great first half--almost flawless. Nothing JG could have done to change the outcome in the 2nd half. Protection was the issue.

The OL was horrible, but our RBs were not capable of getting 2-3 yds on their own. To compete against a DL like UGAs, you need a RB or RBs that can move forward after contact to make UGA respect the run. Just watch when Bama plays the dogs. Harris and Robinson will get some tough yards and keep the chains moving where we couldn't. UGA will have to respect the run game and that will make pass protection easier. UGA had no fear of our run game, so in the 2nd half, they just came after the QB with everything they had, played tight coverage on the LOS, and JG had no time to find an open receiver.

I think he'll look at several positions to upgrade talent at (not QB) and I THINK you may see a real shakeup on the OL. Not so much benching anyone (but maybe) but moving them around because CLEARLY for anyone who understands the game remotely the OL was a problem that could not be overcome Saturday. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL IN THE SEC!!! Absolutely horrible!

Add Clemson to the mix. Clemson recruits players UT used to get, especially in NC. NC has always been very good to UT as was a hidden gem pipeline. Key is the state of Ga, TN can still make a killing there. They have 60-80 P5 guys and 30 4-stars in that state. UGA might take 5-10, they get national recruits now. TN can build from that state.

Well you got to give them some help, use the TE as a lead blocker or something. Expecting them to dodge two guys right after the handoff just isn't going to happen. They could of slid protection a few times if the QB knew what he was looking at , he didn't and never has. That is a problem going forward.

Fair point. North Carolina, particularly the Charlotte area, is an underrated area for football talent.

Maybe so, but a QB that can make plays out of nothing sometimes would be nice. Like Dobbs for example. Chaney's play calling was suspect at times as well.

Agree, chip block or something but being a mercenary for punishment, watched the first half again but only a few of the 2nd half as I couldn’t stomach it. It literally was 3 guys meeting at the QB. I’m being serious, it wasn’t a guy coming free, it was the whole pack. Every OL was getting whooped. Ga gave those boys rabies or something at half. I’ve coached and watched football for a long time. I’ve never seen a swinging gate like that 2nd half, maybe from my sons peewee OL. JG had no prayer to succeed. Once they knew we couldn’t run, they pinned their ears back and attacked.
