Saw this and was curious what volnation thought of this comment. The exchange happens about the 40:30 mark between Bob and Pruitt.

Bob: “Coach even though you were outplayed in the third quarter, your still very much in this football game going into the fourth.”

Pruitt: “Yeah absolutely. We struggled offensively, I thought defensively we played pretty good. Now I’m looking at the film, you know, we got to make a personnel change to make us a little better and we’ll be ok.”

Bob: “But at this point in time you just need a break, you just got to get a score to really get closer in the game don't you?”

Pruitt: ”Yeah, we need to move the ball offensively.”

Now we all know that JG will be the QB for the Vols for the next twenty years, so who is Pruitt taking about here? Is it a defensive player or an offensive player? If you watch the whole show he was upset about some of the broken coverages. Pruitt is a defensive guy and might have the mentality that a great defense can overcome any offensive shortcomings. Or maybe was he talking about an O-lineman, WR, RB?

What do you all think?

I get the sense that they are terrified to change QBs due to the limited practice time for the backups (due to Covid and other issues), so I'm wondering if it was someone on the O-line or a WR instead. O-line was an obvious problem, but outside of Josh Palmer, I don't think our WRs played great either. Chandler also had a crap game if we're being honest, and if he's not giving you much, it might make sense to bring in one of the bigger backs, who might also be a better blocker.

Of course, he could simply be talking about moving the O-linemen around to different spots. He said "personnel change", not necessarily 'change out players'.

JG would be my guess. I hope so anyway.

Obviously an offensive player. He said, “we need to move the ball” and “our defense done pretty well”

Might want to swap Morris and Mays. Morris struggled with the speed of Oluizi (sp?)

Looking at the third quarter

First drive - False Start (Darnell Wright); 3rd & 14 JG striped: Ga recovered
Second drive - 2 positive run plays; 3rd & 1 JG under immediate pressure(pass play on 3rd and 1? Play calling); interception
Third Drive - False Start (Brandon Kennedy); False Start (-5 Yards); 3rd & 12 short pass for 6 yard gain; Tn punt
Fourth drive - 6 yard loss on 2 down; 3rd & 13 Sacked, fumbled, Tn recovered; Tn punt
Fifth drive - 3 and out; punt

my guess is he’s looking at changes to the OL - they committed 3 false starts in the 3rd qt, were unable to open holes for the RBs, and didn’t give the QB any protection...basically Georgia‘s DL played in our backfield all quarter

Kennedy or someone on the line. If our OL even has a B- game we have a shot. We never ever stood a chance with an F game on the ol. No RB even had a chance.
Kennedy rated out as the best Saturday, Tackles got abused as well as guards. They moved Mays between guard and tackle. He was a swinging gate at both. He’s never looked that bad. 3 sacks was on Cade alone, 3 penalties on Cade as well. Morris looked bad but better than Mays and Wright. I look for Wright to become 2nd string.

Georgia had a lot to do with the bad O line play. Looking back, it seemed as though Georgia changed something in their scheme that our coaches were not expecting. One thing is that their speed on defense was something we couldn't adjust to. In the end, the Dawgs whipped us at one of or own Maxims.........attack, attack, attack. Apply more pressure and attack.

Pruitt might just be spouting off to rattle some cages. I'm not sure he'll go crazy with new faces. Still a lot of season to play and the UK game is a must win. Having said that, after the miserable performance on the OL, I'll be shocked if we don't see some new faces up front.

Personally, I want to see more of Baron. I'm also very curious to see Beckwith at RB if he's healthy. Might be getting way ahead of myself, but visions of a Derrick Henry in orange keep popping into my head when I consider Beckwith in the backfield.

This year is a complete mulligan season and I doubt JG would even want to come back next year. Why not get a head start on next year?

According to who? Look the entire OL was bad Saturday, but IMO you can make the argument that 55 is also bringing down the play of Trey and Cade as they are trying to block inside out and Kennedy gets beat constantly. Noticed several times Trey had to shade inside to stop 55's man and UGA brought pressure up the B gap to get home.

The RB's were a total embarrassment at pass protection as well. Several plays where Chandler and Gray whiffed on blocks and didn't even slow down the blitzing LB.

I'm always shaking my head at the number of 5 star busts that end up at UT. Morris and Wright seem to be falling into the Drew Richmond category and JJ Peterson is rarely seen.

They say the hardest part of recruiting is finding out what's truly inside a kid. Does he really love the game? Is he a competitor? Will he rise to SEC levels or wilt under the heat of this conference? Pruitt has his work cut out for him.

Recruiting? There are no mulligans in recruiting. Even with a top 10-15 class we're falling further behind the UGA/Bama/UFs of the conference. We need to show progress and we were....until Saturday. Letting UGA humiliate us like that didn't show recruits that we're "closing the gap" vs the big boys, and we'll be competing for championships anytime soon. It was simply a bad loss. Still opportunities to be had so we can't pull the plug on the season just yet.

Good points, double teaming Jordan Davis for Ga isn’t new however, most teams have to do it. Scary part is they have a true freshman in Carter that already disrupted every play we did. Walker did too. Their DL gave our guys fits then you had their speed guys coming off edge one on one, we couldn’t help the tackles. Agree 100 with the RBs not helping. I read the stat on Kennedy somewhere from PFF, I’ll try to find it. It surprised me too, that’s why I remembered it. They brought pressure up the middle and off the edge. The best thing? This OL won’t have to face another defense like this the entire year.

THAT is my biggest concern, everyone was talking about how BIG Saturday was for our recruiting and we layed an egg. Game was much worse than scoreboard.

This game showed we have to recruit better if we want to play them for 4 qtrs. We HAVE to beat Bama or Florida this year to show recruits we just aren’t a second tier team in the SEC.

No worries about digging it up, was just curious as my amateur eyes saw it differently.

Yeah, Carter is a freak for a true freshman. Their entire 2 deep on the front 7 have the potential to play on Sundays.

I wonder if the coaches get star struck sometimes as well. Should be changes this week on the OL.
