They had some really solid teams. For kicks I looked up their rosters and was remind of guys like: Eric Bienemy, Darian Hagan, Charles Johnson, Rashaan Salaam, Michael Westbrook, Kordell Stewart, etc. And it seems like there were several others I'm forgetting.
Check out their defensive guys as well, they had some that played Sundays.

Went to a Starbucks out there where all six workers were high including the manager. I ordered a coffee and after a barrel full of belly laughs over nothing and I mean absolutely nothing, they brought me out a hot chocolate 15 minutes later and said this one is on the house. No explanation. No coffee. It was actually quite funny. They were in the wind for real.

Like about 15 years ago? :)

I guess you really have to go all the way back to the early 90s.

Program hasn't been the same since Bill McCartney left and took his promise keepers job full time.

The Gospel According to Mac - ESPN Films: 30 for 30 is a very interesting story..When I watched it I remembered the success CU had and I wonder why they have fallen so far since....

Two stories about our 1990 game vs Colorado: Their leading rusher from 1989, Eric Bieniemy was suspended for our game because he assaulted a firefighter who he had called to his house. Apparently, he thought the fireman had caused too much damage to his garage in the process of putting out the fire. Weird.

Also, Mike Keith once relayed this story on his talk show in the 90's: There was a party at the hotel the teams were staying the week of the game with all the coaches and school administrators in attendance. The party was hosted by Disneyland and took place while the players were at the theme park. During this party, someone walked into the convention center wearing a gorilla suit. Bill McCartney said out loud and audible enough for most of the room to hear it, "I'm glad to see that Mrs. Majors could make it." Again, weird.

I do as well. The deal for Colorado is they have to keep all in state players and recruit California well. Once their Cali pipeline got broke they went downhill.

Yep Colorado was big time back then

Mike Pritchard was better than Bienemy IMO.

TORCHED our D in the 1st half

hey, that TN/CO game in the kick off classic....that was a hell of a good football game. two really good teams played back then....CO won a share of the natty with GT i believe that year....

Yep, they were playing at the same time as Sugar Bowl when we beat Virginia in 1991. Just watched the replay last night and they kept popping in the Buffs v ND score. Split title w GT and that was the yr of the 5th down win over Neb. They were good then.

Ironic that he was very religious yet they were getting their recruits via the Louisville bball recruiting style.

what an eventful year for both teams. that sugar bowl....at one point that season UVA was #1...qb got hurt, and they lost a couple games...QB comes back healthy for the bowl game....Aaron Hayden over the top for the win...what a game!!!! good times.

Lol yes when they were one of the top programs at the time and with ND. I was very young but I remember

I remember Chuck Webb lighting them up in the fourth quarter the year they won the title.

Bill Mac was Colrado football in the way that Bill Snyder is Kansas State football. When they left, those respective programs died. It will happen when Snyder leaves KS again.

Mac had a burr under his saddle about that game for some reason. He made several comments. Maybe it was the SEC thing. Who knows?

But, it is never acceptable to attack another coach's wife like that. Low class.

More than 40 replies and not a single Peter Burns joke? Fine.

I had peter burns once, but a salve and a grip adjustment took care of it.

All this time, I've never thought about his name. Now I'll probably remember your joke every time I read his stuff. :)
