Oh they werent happy with 6-7 (or whatever they finished that year) nor losing to Monroe. But they also were coming off 2 .500 coaches (before vacated wins) and a guy that was gone after 2 years.
The short term emotion come out over that by the typicals that every fanbase has, but I don't remember too many questioning the long game at that point yet. Maybe we were talking to or following two different groups of fans which is entirely possible. He probably made a bigger jump from year 1 to year 2 than he even expected. Winning 12 didn't hurt but he wasn't going to be fired for 8 or 9 after his second year either. Year 3 would have had double digit expectations
Most of the Bammers I know and stuff I was reading at the time called for immediate improvement in year 1. If they didn't get to 10 wins or something close to that in year 2, there absolutely would have been elements in their athletic department/among their boosters who would have given up on him. They were preseason #24 coming off a 7-6 the previous year, including a loss to ULM. Tennessee fans and others were rolling their eyes at that, saying they were overrated and only there because of name recognition. Their expectations were through the roof with him; as we said earlier he'd already won a national title at an SEC school and was supposed to immediately make them better.

Turned out nobody knows nothing, as is typical. Year 1 wasn't immediate improvement, but he had Alabama back on top sooner and to a greater extent than anyone thought possible.

We suck. We’ve sucked for way too long. Saturday was one of the worst performances I’ve seen in Neyland Stadium. But we’re only four games into a new era. And that’s my issue: I think some are laying over a decade of misery at the feet of those who have been here for nine months.

Regardless, let’s hope it gets better. We’re all sick of losing.
Yeah that's the hard part for this staff.

They didn't create this, it's not their baggage.

But they've inherited all of it.

Until the Butch stain is washed from this team, it cannot be a rebuilding year. When all those guys are gone, and Pruitt has his type players and SEC type players then that's when the rebuilding process begins. He will need his full 6 years to do this sad for us fans who have been beaten down so long but whats another 6 years
some of Butchs players are decent -- Trey Smith, Calloway, Chandler , Jennings

This may sound odd coming from me but at some point we will hit rock bottom. We thought we had in other years. We may not have hit it last Saturday. But at some point we will absolutely hit it. And from then on, even though there will be good and bad days, we will be on our way up. Maybe, just maybe Saturday with UF was that game and we will see some signs of life from our program. Maybe it happens later this season. I dont know. But i know this, the rise back up to whatever level of success we attain will be very very sweet indeed.

There's a lot of this "a great coach gets it turned around immediately" stuff going on here.

Where exactly is that coming from? There are exceptions of course, but basically every coach who was successful at a rebuilding job has the program humming in year 2 or 3. They quite often look just as bad as before, or even worse, in year 1. It took Dabo 4 years to get Clemson running, and even then there was "Clemsoning" for a couple years after that. Dabo was *this* close to getting fired during/after the 2010 season.

Dabo at best was a complete unknown as a HC when he started his first full season. By his 3 year he had the schools first 10 win season since 1990. And while they probably dropped a few that they shouldn't have after that, his worst season since then is 10 wins.

Im not sure what Clemson was ready to fire him over. They hadn't been good over an extended period of time since the 80's.

Damn, we haven't hit rock bottom yet?

They were about to fire him because that 2010 season was worse than Bowden's last few years, and they fired Bowden because 8-5/9-4 was deemed not good enough.

Until the last few years Clemson was a perennial underachiever. They don't have as much history as some other schools but are in prime recruiting territory and in the ACC, which they know is easier to win than the SEC.

The upperclassmen have been babied to death for so long under Butch.

Pruitt is a straight shooter who’s not there to hold their hand.

I say some of them probably don’t like it and if that’s the case, screw’em.

We want winners, not players who keep feeling sorry for themselves.

Didn’t Cade Mayes start yesterday as a true sophomore? Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright would start for us if they come here next year. It’s all about the Jimmies and Joes
He's a true Freshman. However, his start is because of an injury. Not because he walked in and was the best lineman they had like Trey Smith is. Also, Cade Mayes is off the same freak tree as Trey Smith. And Pruitt went after him with guns blazing. He didn't get him because of all the nonsense prior to Pruitt, primarily from the administration on the coaching search fiasco.

And don’t know if you remember @Larkin on here or not, but he and I have been having the rock bottom debate since about 2005. Lol.

Yup I saw that too. When your QB gets hit dirty you should take it as a personal offense as a O-Linemen. I don't even mind when a Llneman gets a PF call for defending his QB. Taylor Lewan is a perfect example lol.

I truly feel sorry for JG. How can the kid gain any confidence when the guys around him aren't willing to go to war for him.

I didnt care for that one bit either. Smith should have at least gotten into that guys face.

These kids don’t care. I learned that when JG Got hit dirty a few times and none of them helped him up or defended him. We won’t be good again until these cancerous players are gone. Butch infected them to the point of no return

I thought the exact same thing. A few of those linemen should opened up a freaking can after that cheap shot. JG is tough as hell, but nobody looked to have his back. It was a sad sight.

DWA proved he wasn’t ready for SEC play. Maybe he’ll be ready this week. These games aren’t WVU. SEC teams get after it on defense.

Here's a thought, your offensive line will not get better until the defensive line gets better. If you can block our defensive line in practice does that mean you are a good player ? Our defensive line gets blocked out all the time in games. How do you improve practicing against lesser players than you will face in a game ?

I said this same thing yesterday. Imagine Spencer Riley, Will Ofenhousen (sp) or some of the other OL in the past if an opponent took a shot like that on their QB? None of our guys even went back to help JG up. Thats also on the OL coach Will Friend. These guys in this program know "quit" and "lose" cause thats about all they've been around the last 3 yrs.
Spayshul Fwend needs to be the first coach canned.

your right...and when a little sunshine pops through the clouds suddenly you begin to see the forums littered with post that we will just throttle the Bammers and Dogs and Gators ect...and so it just runs wild on that side until their fantasy falls apart. We have to be level headed
