Interesting comment by Pruitt during his postgame press conference

Ok personal attack guy. Those wins last year were great. Then we crapped the bed. Then we continued to crap the bed to start this year. Then our best win this year is against a 7 win team.

We didn't crap the bed at the end of last year....Mizzou and Vandy had MUCH BETTER TALENT than we did last year.

We didn't have a very good team last year....and our OL was absolutely TERRIBLE!

Fulmer seems to understand that fact in the comments he made after the season ended last year.
But I guess that means nothing to you or the Hogg-head because you guys know more about football than AD Fulmer and CJP.

We should be 9-3 and talking about finishing with 10 wins for the first time since 2007. It was inexcusable to start 0-2. We lost to the big 3 by a combined 82 points so the gap there is still pretty big. Pruitt is going to have to hit the recruiting trail hard.

Vandy and Missouri did not have better talent. Did GA State and BYU? P

Wow, you just ignored your own advice.

100%. I think CJP learned a lesson this year.

Name one...since there’s “plenty”.

Oh, a lot of silly little things. His numerous references to how bad things were when he took over could be interpreted as implied excuse-making. He took the fans to task because only 65,000 showed up for his first spring game. He said that his wife was the team's #1 recruiter. He fired the long-time team surgeons for no explained reason. He had his 2>63 strain slogan, which is reminiscent of Butch's motivational gimmicks that are constantly criticized. He made a point to say that only 28% of Vols 2018 preseason roster has more than one start -- definitely would have been an "excuse" if Butch had said it, IMO. After the WVU loss last year, he blamed it on the players not executing the coaches' good plays in the second-half. After the ETSU game later in the season, in which there was a weather delay, a reporter asked him if he had learned anything from the WVU game (which also had a weather delay) that helped him handle it better. He said he didn't, but he hoped the players did. After the UTEP game, he compared the players to his 3 year-old. Oh, and he also said that Alabama was his favorite musical group.

Are you really trying to say that the talent Mizzou and Vandy didn't have better talent than us last year???

Let me ask you a question--have you even played the game past the youth leagues in your town??

It’s amazing to me that so many want to give the team a pass, and really CJP, for the start of the year. You don’t judge a year based on the last 6 weeks. That’s not how a YEAR works. Are we moving in the right direction? Yes. And I will take it.

You don't judge a 12 game season by the first 2 games, either.

Yes, I’m saying we had more talent than Mizzou and Vandy last year.

Yes, I did play past youth league. I actually have a NAIA NC ring so I played a little football in my day.

I’ll admit that I’m still not sold on Pruitt, he lost 2 games he shouldn’t have and won none that he shouldn’t have. The man has more blowout loses in 2 years than any UT coach in their entire tenure so I’m not apologizing for being hesitant about him. I‘m ecstatic about the way the season turned out but I’m a UT fan, not a coach fan.
Pruitt also inherited a worst roster than other coaches and a non-existent S&C program...

It's a different 25, but you can only bring in 25 new players in a calendar year. I believe that's how it's worded.

No offense but that isn't correct. You can only sign 25 incoming freshman/juco, transfers from the portal only count against your 85, not the class.

There was a link to the rule posted, read it.

Pruitt has to have the team better prepared to start the season. There's no way we lose to Ga State and BYU if we played now...but what's done is done....and it's obvious this team was NOT ready to start the season. That IS an issue...no way around it....but this team closed fantastic...which is great to see. Nobody saw 7-5 after the 1st two games and after Florida. Give Pruitt credit for getting this team to close strong and restore pride and dignity to the program.

We just won 6 of 7 games playing teams with 20 something more players than us
Maybe after the bowl game he can use this line again. I'm afraid he might pull a foot-in-mouth Butch'ism between now and the bowl game dropping that line too much.
Nobody is close to full strength by the end of the year. It's time to let it go.

Last year he toe'd the line with "bring in 25 guys who are willing to play the game the right way next year".
He came just a little too close to disparaging our guys here and there last season for my precious comfort zone, particularly at half vs bama.
Fine line trying to honestly assess & critique a bad team during the 1st year of a rebuild.

All in all, Pruitt's aight with me.

Hopefully 8-4 is the floor before our bowl game next year.

Serious question, when has he said it? I remember when he said it after the Alabama game, and again when someone asked in a press conference -- it might have been the following week. Were there others?

See? Read all that and didn’t get an “excuse” out of it. Won’t hate on your take of it if you return the favor.

I think he brought it up again after Kentucky.

I can't 100% put my finger on the why aspect of it, but that phrasing just makes me uneasy. Seems like he could verbally slip trying to accentuate a point during a press conference pulling it from his coach speak repotoir, or a reporter/coach could paraphrase it out of context.
