Nothing wrong with twitter or even tweeting recruits. The internet allows everyone to meet new people regardless of fame/no fame, youth or old age. It serves as today's town square where you can talk, meet new people and make new friends. But what makes it cool is that it comes with far fewer judgments attached -- none of us know what the other looks like, how rich or poor the other person is, what gender the person is, or anything else the person doesn't share and even then we have to take one another at our word.
However, there's everything wrong with being a freak who thinks it's your job to convince a recruit by offering sexual favors, naming rights, or freaky promises if a kid signs. At the same time, none of us know if the freaks are trolling or serious. Most recruits are digital natives and know full well how wonderful and awful the intertubez can be and the extreme compassion as well as the extreme hate it can engender.
Old dudes working at ESPN and old dudes in other jobs are less aware of the nature of the net. They try to stop what they don't understand and make mountains out of not only molehills but trolls and also what many of us who spend time online would consider obvious jokes.
Yes there's a dark side but such is the world we live in. There's also an extreme positive side that doesn't make a good story.
IOW, if you don't understand how strange the intertubez are and painfully trying to be hip to the whole thing as John McCain was when he ran for Prez (and he's hardly alone as this ain't a partisan thang or even an older thang) or the eldest among our SCOTUS, you should probably stay away from any debate -- far, far, away.
