I think you have to be aspecial personality such as Pete Carroll to coach at USC and make it work.

I agree.... I think one issue that hurt him was coming from Tennessee where the head coach is the de facto "President of the state".... USC football coach is like the 5,000th most famous / relevant person in town.....

He got what he deserved. The most embarrassing public firing a coach could have. Coach O was a real douchebag in this and he gets fired from LSU, his dream job. So karma got both.

They left out the part about him wrecking a car the university had given him and walking away from it. Hmm.... might have been worried about calling the police to report it
My daughter was a student at the time up there. Let’s just say there were a number of interesting stories from his time in Knoxville.

Kiffin, Sarkisian (I know he was going through some personal problems at the time) and Lincoln Riley, all 3 good coaches, couldn't make it work at USC.

Kiffin is scum and has not earned any respect from this fanbase.

If you like the guy, whatever but don’t try to justify his reckless behavior to everyone else.

The real scum were the ones who hired and approved him for the hire. At the time the UT job was bare min a top 10 job in College football.

100%. You're literally surrounded by celebrities. When people think of college football in Tennessee, they think of the team in orange and white. In California, even though USC was the most dominate at the time, you've got UCLA, Stanford, even Cal who are all historically respected CFB programs. Kiffin learned the hard way that he was a little fish in a big pond in California. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

That being said, as a fanbase I wish we'd quit giving him the attention that he craves. The 2021 Ole Miss game was a robbery but he was loving every minute of the trash throwing and booing. You wanna crush Kiffin's feelings? Treat him like any other opposing coach when he comes to Knoxville.

Is that Chris Low in the picture ? If so I don’t remember him being that large !
Good question. Not sure, but it was a WBIR-TV broadcast & Bud was trying to deflect questions from the Knoxville media. Wild times in Knoxville.

100% x 2. The Southern Cal football coach probably isn't even the 5000th most important person in LA. Every famous celebrity, every world class chef, every member and executive for the Angels, the Los Angeles Kings, the Lakers, the Dodgers, every TV show host, every major movie director, rap artist, b-list movie star, so on, so forth. They're all going to have more status than USC's football coach.

It doesn't make USC meaningless, and they do have dedicated USC fans out there, but I cannot stress how very close to indifferent the greater Los Angeles area is to college football. Not even just USC. Any of them. Pick any of them. Short of someone like John Wooden, or Pete Carroll at his zenith, it just doesn't register on the radar there.
