Intel on Pruitt situation

1. Is absolutely, 100% false. Pruitt made the change himself, against the advice of his AD.

2. "Boosters" are given way too much credit on message boards. The last two times UT has had an opening, the money has not been an issue in trying to hire a coach. Getting someone worth the money to say yes has been the issue. I don't think that changes.

Secondly on the boosters, remember that the pandemic has affected their businesses and portfolios as well. UT is already asking money folks to go above and beyond their normal number just so they can come close to budget. Facing a $40 million deficit, nobody is coming up with an extra $20 million to blow out the staff this year.
Why is it that nobody "worth the money" wants the job? Is it the 'upper management' they don't like or just the program itself?

I was the booster...I bought two beers at the last game I went to.

Then I called Pruitt personally and told him to fire a coach whos unit wasnt even looking near as bad as others.

I then decided next game I will drink water instead and save the money I would use on beers to pay Pruitts buyout in full.

I don’t think you should be so sure about #1. Either way it is not massively material.

I don’t know the dynamics between Brumbaugh and Pruitt. Pruitt’s hand was forced by boosters, believe what you want.
This doesn’t make sense and doesn’t pass the smell test. Boosters wouldn’t be stupid enough to demand a DL coach be removed after 4 games. I think most of us here call BS on you new guy.

We've been through a ton of coaches, it's obvious the forces behind the scenes are a giant PITA to deal with, so I would say a coach worth his salt that was looking for a multi year rebuild would look for something with a more unified purpose. Just a guess.

1) Complete and total BS.
2) Only divide is between Haslams and the others. And it’s not as wide as advertised. Everyone wants the same thing a successful program they just have different ideas about how to go about it.

Thanks for being the voice of reason. I've said it before: nobody's getting fired this year. Teams are 10s of millions of dollars in the red, and the last thing they will want to do is add a fat buyout to the tab.

There is also a huge amount of uncertainty about the future. There's seriously a chance that there will be no spring football practice and no guarantee that the 2021 season will be "normal."

With the new administration, we may be looking at another shutdown...

Orrrrr, covid will magically disappear....

I am sorry but since you are new here you may not know that almost everyone here has an insider source. Intel from team insiders, boosters etc flows like sewer water !! Every time coach is about to get fired, we also have intel (read heavy intel) on Jon Gruden too !!

He is NOT NEW. Ignore!

I am sure and it's incredibly material if you want to be believed on anything else. Which you shouldn't be, based solely on the fantasy you're trying to sell here.
People defend the hardest when you are over the target. I trust the person I heard this from more than you.

Exactly. If anyone thinks we are ready to pay something around $20+ million in buyout money plus throw $6-8 million/yr guaranteed at a proven winner when there might not even be a 2021 season, they are living the high life in Oregon.

1. Group of Boosters forced Pruitt to fire D Line coach. This was not Pruitts decision, several boosters are extremely weary of Pruitts performance and demanded change.

2. Big boosters are as factional as they were 3 years ago. Only way buyout of Pruitt will happen within the next 2 years is if UT can get a big time potential hire that incentives boosters to invest in the expensive $12m+ buyout. There is desire to get Pruitt out but there has to be exit strategy to a much better coach. The $12m will not be paid to go get another unproven Coach.

He was fired in the middle of a game. Boosters met with Pruitt at halftime?

How many guys "worth the money" move from major job to major job in the offseason? That's the biggest factor. Guys you want that are already at major jobs rarely move from those jobs unless their situation is bad behind the scenes (see: Jimbo Fisher at FSU). Realistically, you have two options when hiring a coach: Longtime assistant or up-and comer. Let's look at the current AP Top 15 and there their coaches came from:

1. Hired away from the NFL, which he had concluded was a bad fit.
2. Hired from then-mid-major Cinncinatti
3. Assistant coach elevated after the head coach was suspended, then reinstated, then retired
4. Assistant coach elevated after the head coach was fired mid-season
5. Hired away from another P5 program
6. Hired away from another SEC school, returned to program that launched his career in a "dream job" scenario.
7. Assistant hired from P5 school.
8. Coordinator hired to return to alma mater
9. Assistant hired from P5 school.
10. Assistant coach elevated after the head coach was fired
11. Assistant coach elevated after the head coach left for Florida State
12. Assistant hired from P5 school.
13. Hired away from another P5 program to return to Alma Mater
14. Assistant coach elevated after the head coach left for LSU
15. Coastal Carolina - doesn't count

So when you look at what happens in the vast majority of coaching hires, what is Tennessee not doing that others are? I'll give you Nick Saban. Tennessee offered Dan Miullen more money than Florida did, but he valued the Florida job from his time there before. Paul Chryst at Wisconsin was hired away from Pitt, but that barely counts. Basically everyone else was either a risky coordinator hire or taking a swing on a mid-major guy.

Water_Rat = MIT_Beaver if it hasn’t already been said.

This is very basic folks. You quit whining and work through it.

I grow more convinced everyday that Tennessee would never have been great in the 90s of the world was as it is today

1. Johnny Majors wouldn’t have survived. His first seasons were dreadful
2. No Johnny, No Recruiting Spike
3. No Johnny, No Phil
4. No Phil, No Title

I grow astonished at the INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF WHINING I see from you all. I assume you are all Millenials given your inability to suck it up and let a team figure itself out.

Many of y’all have no idea how football works. You probably never played. You certainly never played and had a coaching change.

I’m not saying this team is perfect. They aren’t. Something is off with our play calling. It’s much too timid and we play that way.

But damn, Jeremy Pruitt gives a damn about the kids, all the **** their dealing with in everyday culture, pandemic, trying to find their way in the world, many boys growing into leaders in the community.

I ain’t got a single issue with Pruitt. He stands by his players as people.

That said, his team plays timid. I thought JG was one of the only aggressive players yesterday and it got him a concussion.

I see the same thing I’ve seen on Tennessee teams for the past decade.

No On the field Leadership.

Maybe it happens because the young guys are more talented than the older guys.

I don’t know the locker room dynamics. I just see what I see on the field. Besides #11 on Defense and #73 on offense, I don’t see an emotional leader

Wait, has anyone checked this guys stats?

People probably felt a little different about Majors considering he had just won a NC.

I'm sure if you had your choice then Dooley would still be coaching here.

What does being Millenial have to do with anything? Am I supposed to throw in some boomer rant here?

Sorry, I'm not that ignorant.

Stay off the news, learn to think critically, and learn to not stereotype people.

It will benefit you for the remainder of your life.
