There comes a time when a coach just has to coach. Thing is, this team, Pruitts own guys have gotten worse. Something is wrong and it starts with the head man. He will no doubt get his contracted years, that’s what scares me the most.
I was being simplistic, but I know where you're coming from. Bottomline.....our players have the talent to be much better than they are, but they are not receiving the coaching to realize their full potential as individual players or as a team.Disagree. Running a 4.4 40 or benching 300+ has nothing to do with football talent. That is pure physical ability. Talent is being a student of the game and honing skills to perfect your craft. It is an aptitude. It is understanding and executing your role as a member of the team.
I can be the fastest WR or DB on the field but that is not my talent. My talent would be what I am able to do with that speed when executing a play. I understand what you are saying with this but I believe you have the terms confused. It would appear that many of the players who look bewildered or confused on the field have a low level of talent because they don't know what's going on.
I think this tidbit is one of the most astounding things in the article:
“ but the fact is several of his peers warned him about the condition of Tennessee’s roster before he took the job.”
So apparently other coaches could see how exactly what Pruitt inherited.
Things will be good. It is a time thing. No excuse for Georgia State, they absolutely blew that and there is no reason for it, none, not a single iota...but, I think in time we will be pleased that Pruitt and Co. are here.
Rucker: Let’s be real about size, scope of Vols’ rebuild
Some hightlights:
All the transfers are not a bad thing.
The guys from '16 and '17 recruiting classes are not what they were on paper
Pruitt's first class was assembled in essentially 2 weeks so those are just marginally "his guys" and thats UTs fault for the coaching debacle.
Our roster is not good currently (I know I know, GaSt., shot happens is all I can say)
I thought this was laid out very well and encompasses alot of the discussion on this board.
It’s been stated a few times that he started recruiting the day he was hired. I know that’s not going to make a difference to many. Personally, I never had an issue with him seeing the players he helped get there all the way to the end. However, I don’t have an irrational hatred to all things Bama either. This one is kind of a half-truth. Hindsight now, he should have come directly to the HC position and not coached Bama in the NC. He lost some time there he could have been recruiting, although he said he was part-time.
Heck, I warned him when he accepted the job. I posted my open letter to him a week or two ago.I think this tidbit is one of the most astounding things in the article:

For a change, I agree with what Rucker wrote. He made the effort to do some research and find the facts. Good for him.Rucker: Let’s be real about size, scope of Vols’ rebuild

That’s just your opinion to which just isn’t true. I haven’t seen that since the Georgia St game and from the expanation given by coach Pruitt they called a conservative game and the players were playing on there heals. Since the first game I think the defense has played well enough to win games if the offense would just get going. People are gonna have to get over Georgia St game and look at this team with real perspective. I get that game happened but to say they haven’t played better since is just choosing to focus on one game.Lack of talent still doesn't explain players that look confused, clueless, and unmotivated.
right...and? This is the beauty and frustration of college football. We just don't know.
Haven't seen it since the GSU game? What about when Taylor let the BYU receiver run by him and then the safety misses the tackle? Did you see that? During the UF game the sideline reporter said one of the UT O-lineman raised his hand and said "coach what are we doing?" The players don't have a clear vision of what they are supposed to be doing. It's obvious. That’s just your opinion to which just isn’t true.
