Insiders...do the offensive players like the system?

You are not going to recruit top level talent at WR if they are recruited to block

I dont blame them one bit. I would go to a school that will exploit my talent.

In 4 years, how many 1000 yard receivers have we had?

Where were you when we were 5-0? Funny I didn't see you around much then.

Paging VFL34, LWS, someone with knowledge. Would be interesting to see how the team is really feeling right now. Hope Butch can rally them for the home stretch after this bye. But they have to be mentally and physically exhausted. We got embarrassed yesterday and dropped 10 spots in the poll. Now we are fighting and will need help to even win our division.

Maybe their silence should speak volumes

Guys none of us are fans of an east west offense....

It is true we had so many injuries prior to the game, and added more during the game, that being competitive against Bama was a monumental challenge to start with.

Saban has eclipsed all the other coaches of the SEC with his #1 recruits each year..In any event, it has been an exciting season so far.

I'm old enough to remember when we use to beat Bama...Great times.

We are slowly getting the talent, now we need to get the position coaches who will develop and make the most of it....

player development is where I see the problem we have gotten good players, but they never seem to pan out as they should. That falls on coaching, teaching these kids how to develop that talent.

I'm not overreacting to one game. I just hate this offense. I always have. Win or lose, I just don't like this scheme.

Dobbs is an elite athlete and average (at best) QB. He seems to decide where he is going with the ball as soon as the ball is snapped. Play calling is predictable. It's hard to watch. We just have some amazing athletes who can make big plays.

We've won games in spite of all this. If we keep this scheme, and as long as butch is here we will, we need an elite OC to make this work. Maybe it's just Dobbs not being a great QB, but I think it's more play calling than Dobbs. OC has to put him in a position to be successful and this play calling just isn't doing this.

We won't get an elite OC to run Jones' system. Elite OCs want to run their own system.

I could make a case in agreement for several of the ol and wide receivers.
Barnett, Dobbs( with limited consistency) and Hurd (even in a system not suited for him) will all leave here with school records broken.
Sutton, 1 or 2 from the ol and a couple from the defense, have surpassed expectations or at least performed better than higher rated players.
There are some lows and highs in development.

I don't have the answer for our struggles so not telling anyone that they're wrong. Here is something that confuses me about this thread though - If Jones never changes his system (I agree), and that's the issue, why did Alabama have to make the 4th quarter defensive stand to win against the same system last year?
2 years ago, I heard "if Dobbs had started, we might have won".
Same system all 3 years with completely inconsistent results.

Once again, not saying anyone is wrong, it just doesn't seem to add up. And I have no idea what the problem is either.

Dobbs looked shell shocked in the third quarter...quick, short passes and not really looking downfield even when he had receivers open...believe Coach Debord was just trying to get him through the game healthy for the remainder of the schedule (of course, along with everybody else)...:)

GO VOLS!

Dobbs is a very good passer when we hold up at the line. But with a combination of guys getting beat, injuries, and the scheduling gauntlet, we lost this one at the line.

A great Q, charger. I've attempted to make sense of it in this way: every game is a stand alone event. Every game exposes both issues in need of improvement AND positives to build upon. Also, each game is effected by hundreds of variables. For example, I believe something which helped us last year was catching UA at the end of a difficult stretch and we were coming off a bye.

Having mostly a RB for a QB certainly doesn't help.

And then reversed this year, they catch us with no rest and a mash unit team.
I haven't watched Alabama play many games this year, feel free to correct me. Looking at this game, they just look better than ever, also.

Yep, pretty much reversed. Although Bama didnt have a bye but they were healthy. Saban said this was Bama's most complete game. He isn't known for giving out superfluous praise. So, I'm inclined to believe they put the total package together for UT. Im not a student of the game so it's hard to say they looked better than ever; they certainly looked as good as ever.

Yeah, great that everybody always seems to pull it together when playing us lol.
I'm curious to watch them the rest of this year though. If you follow recruiting, then you know, they always have the number one class, but those classes have numbers that go with them. Just continue to get the first class, but also, those classes just keep getting higher and higher scores.

The downside to hype and national exposure is everyone gets "up" to compete against you.

Bama's recruiting is unbelievable. Best players money can buy.

i'll say this, if Alabama is going to be the litmus test for whether or not this program is any good, or can be successful, as long as Saban is there, and they recruit the way they do, then more times than not, there's going to be a lot of disappointment. the SEC is a war of attrition, and there's just not many (Ohio St, maybe Clemson) that can keep up with them right now.

if everybody fired the coach for not beating alabama....well, there'd be a lot of unemployed coaches.

that would be a good way to keep salaries down though.

So it's your belief that we didn't hire a coach to beat Bama and recruit as well as them? That we hired a coach to just be good enough for second place? Somebody has to deal with Saban. We need to be that program.

Did anybody happen to notice the offense that Alabama ran all over us with on Saturday? It's exactly what we're trying to do.
