Inky dropping some knowledge

When I was a kid back in the early 80's I was in a cult ("The Boston Movement"). Many Church of Christers have probably heard of it. I was there for about 3 months and I'd seen enough. Of course the word was I was going to hell if I deserted the flock, (unknown to them I'd already been there a few times and had ended up having a pretty good time). Anyway, A few years later the cult began to collapse and people involved saw the light. Initially there were some revered insiders that engaged in a "circle the wagons" mentality but in short order the whole façade crumbled. The point is we pay Jones and this staff many millions of dollars per year to do a job. The demonstrated incompetence should not be dismissed without anyone taking responsibility. SEC football is definitely cult-like so maybe we bow down to saint jones and ask no questions?

Wow!!! And y'all question Inky?

Totally right in terms of marriage, family, job, etc, but the million dollar business of college football is not the same. Plus, this isn't the first sign of adversity with Butch. Heck, the first time he played Florida starting Peterman (and letting him play as long as he did) was the first sign. Blowing the Vanderbilt game that year was another sign. Florida last year was a sign too. Butch should be at least 2-1 against Florida. All of these issues aren't new. The fans have bought what he's selling until now. If you ask me, we've been quite patient and supportive. He deserves no more patience though. It's either win or go home at this point.

All due respect to Inky, but since when is 7 years a quick fix (since Fulmer was fired)?

The talent is here now. Our coaching staff either doesn't know how to or refuses to develop it.

This is my problem with anyone posting about fans looking for instant gratification. 7 years waiting is not instant gratification.

Inky is a stand-up human being and I have the utmost respect for him but I unregrettably disagree. It does not take anything away from my admiration from him. Simply differing opinions.

Funny how so many praising Clay Travis (yuck) and bashing Inky. LOL. All it takes to get y'all on your side is bash Butch.

Just hang it there douche. It will get better. We are in good hands and it's all ok.
Process chart and analytics and all

Whichever side of the coin you find yourself on, this is pretty spot on by Inky.

"The problem is we live in this Burger King society and people want to have it their way or they approach things with the microwave concept and expect a quick fix and don't have the power to endure anything. We are so quick to criticize instead of building people up. This is the same reason why marriages, families, organizations, universities and teams never get to where they're supposed to because at the first sign of adversity, opposition or trouble people jump out of the boat... Anybody can cheer for you when you're up but it takes special people to believe and extract the good from the bad. JUST REMEMBER THERE WILL COME A DAY AND TIME WHERE YOU WILL NEED SOME GRACE & EXPECT TO GET IT BUT DON'T FORGET HOW YOU JUDGED AND TALKED ABOUT OTHERS WHEN THEY NEEDED IT. Everybody is with you in the resurrection but no one is with you during the crucifixion.‪#‎VFL‬#ButMaybeYourePerfect"

I don't even care if this is from inky or not!
Damn good post and spot on!
People not happy need to go home! Nobody's making you go to a game!
If you are good at criticizing go do something about. Go be a grad assistant, go be the AD. What's stopping you!
Go earn your shot to make the decision! If your not willing to go earn your shot then let the ones who have done it do their best! They deserve time and support which they have earned. It is a lot better team and they are close to being very good. But it takes time and work to catch up with guys who are also working hard to improve every day.

Either put yourself in position to do something! Or give them decent amount of respect to do their job!

What does Win or Go Home mean? Signs? Of course there's been adversity. No coach would come here with this team and not have adversity. And yes, Butch has absolutely made some boneheaded moves (along with the players). But, I presume by Go Home, you mean get yet another coach. Sorry, that just won't work now. There is no Gruden or Saben chomping at the bit to coach here. In fact, all the issues and coaching turnover makes it way more likely we'd just get another coach in training (who is a worse recruiter). Butch is in Year 3. Our best hope is he figures things out, talent matures, and we turn things around. The alternative is not great.

End of year four and we're still doing this stuff? Let's talk again about a new coach.

Now there you go using logic. What you should do is bash Inky. That would make you cool.

I like Inky, but that is some immature reasoning.

Is it? ..... I suppose commenting that the coaches are idiots, should be fired, that they suck and etc. is very mature..... All while actually believing Dooley left the UT program in tip top shape and that a pile of hot garbage roster can be magically changed over night.

I will rely on the words of people like Inky and VFL34 who have been there and done that, rather than the drunk ramblings of a bunch of never have beens. You all have the answers, why not do something with your ideas?

I think it's good that former and current players are speaking up about the immaturity of our fanbase. VolNation has collectively looked just as bad- if not worse- than Justin Bieber and One Direction fans. Think about that.

Sorry, but it's just a moronic statement. This fanbase is not the problem. This fanbase has stuck with this program through nearly a decade of incompetence and failure. For him to point a finger at the fans is quite outrageous. The team and the coaches are failing. The fans have been there, cheering like crazy, checkerboarding the stadium, and have been rewarded pathetic coaching, players not stepping up, and a head coach that is apparently unable to see the err of his in game decision-making.

I think Inky owes the fans an apology.

Inky owes you absolutely nothing.

This has to be the dumbest post of the year...by far. I'm pretty sure you twisted his words. Go back and read it again since your reading comprehension skills seem to be lacking

Read it again and I have no idea what youre seeing. If he is not referring to the fans, then who?

The reality is Tenn fans have been patient

The reality is that the team has gotten better. This is the best Tennessee team I've watched in years.

I do share some of the same concerns as the guys losing their fudge. I voiced that concern two years ago, when coach left Peterman in the Florida game when there obviously was something wrong with his performance that leaving him in the game was not solving. Turned out he had a broken hand. What bugs me about the criticism I see now is the mindlessness. When they run, fans say they should pass...or run, as if they didn't. When they pass, fans say they should run..or try short passes, as if they didn't. Fans say shouldn't play so conservatively on offense. Well, we saw some very daring play calling in the Florida game which worked, but fans are still complaining about calling conservative plays. Much of the criticism is just stupid. Yeah, some of it is valid, but exaggerated.

We all know that the O-line cannot hold blocks very long, that its push is not reliable, and that Dobbs is not reliable going vertical. So there are limitations with calling plays. The coaches worked those problem well enough to get good leads, but those are hard problems to manage for four quarters against good defenses. If Jones had given Dormady PT in the second half to PASS the ball, he might have had no time and gotten crushed. Everybody would blame Jones. The reality is that the offense still has limitations.

I am more miffed about the collapse of the defense in fourth quarter. Were they gassed in the OK game? Yes, but the FL game? Of course, if they blitzed more and failed, everybody would criticize coaches for blitzing so much, because that is just how you are.

Right now, our coaches and players need our support, really need us to do our jobs and support them. A lot of you are saying that they do not deserve your support. The reality is that changes will be made if they must be made, regardless of what fans say, because seats will go empty. The fans who complain the loudest about the team quitting are the fans who are first to quit. That is how you are. If you want to quit, then quit. But please do it with your mouths shut, so the team can see and hear the rest of us supporting them.

Not buying it. The whole fan base straight up wrote off Butchs ENTIRE first year to Dooley and the situation he was left with. Many even did the same with the second year, pointing to the Iowa bowl game and recruiting as proof Butch was bringing us back to prominence. Everyone has been patient, and here we are in year 3, losing to the same teams we did last year, and still giving up games we should be winning.

It is telling that people come here and say "We can still get to our preseason expectation of 8 wins". Can you honestly say that Butch Jones is THE guy if what we expect of him is 8 wins in his 3rd year with such a talented roster in an Eastern division that continues to be EXTREMELY weak? Do you really think a championship calibre coach loses in this fashion 2 times in three weeks? Does a championship calibre coach, in his 3rd year, only manage to beat the likes of Arkansas, SC, Vandy, and Kentucky?

I'm not sitting here saying Fire Butch Jones. I'm sitting here saying these are the questions you have to start asking when we are 2-2 through 4 games for the 3rd year in a row, looking down the barrel of October where Butch is 2-5 while at UT.

Butch's best win (and only vs a ranked team) came in his first year. That will very soon be 2 years in the past, and we have shown not a single inkling of proof that we can beat a good team since then.

We have some real a..hole people on this site. I mean really. I'm as disappointed as ANYONE...I mean physically sick about it. But you know what...we have taken huge strides against top tier programs already. I mean for years we've been out of these games by half time. People want/expect big time results/wins immediately...and yes we've let two games slip away. It happens!!! This team has and WILL learn how to finish! I mean think about it...it's not like they've got veteran players to show them how. The coaches can't always bail them out. Have there been questionable calls?...Sure, but there have been game sealing plays that were not made as well. GROW UP PEOPLE..or simply take your ball and go home!!! These players and this program don't need your support! Believe that!

Except for 1 good drive our players bailed out the coaches with individual effort. otherwise it wouldn't have been close as it was. After the ou game they knew that is the only way they can win. Jmo
