Injury Bug and Nike Equipment

I don't think equipment has anything to do with the injuries. We are not a hard hitting physical football team. Yeah there's a few guys who can bring it, but the team as a whole isn't physical. Jennings and Barnett are the two that stick out. Our Oline spends more time falling on each others knees and ankles killing any kind of depth. This year we are being hit and its costing us. We are near last in the league in defense at stopping the run.

God hates the TN Vols.......does that one satisfy you?

No. That would still assume it was something that could not be discovered and/or controlled.

Statistically, we have an abnormal number of injuries. We need to discover potent causes and put in place ways to mitigate there potential effects.

I can never remember this many injuries in a season.

Does Nike provide all the equipment? Helmet, Pads, Shoes and so on? If so, is there a correlation between the equipment and the numerous injuries?

Injuries such as concussions, Sprains, Shoulder are up? Could it be more equipment related?

Bama wears Nike........along with 9 other SEC schools..

No. But there IS a correlation between having your first beer and thinking you just made a brilliant observation.

Five years ago, most of the guys now out with concussion probably would be on the field playing. But since guys like Mike Webster and Junior Seau had their brains examined after their deaths, you don't see Dads telling their sons to man up after they only got their bell rung. Now, you have a tougher protocol before getting back on the field.

As to the other injuries, we have had a nasty run of them with key players. But this isn't the first time, and it won't be the last. We finally get a bye week to get some healing up done. But this is why you recruit your ass off, and try to have layers of depth.

If there was something wrong with equipment, I would think the experienced equipment managers we have over there would have spotted it. There could be several factors why players are getting hurt. But as to equipment, no.

Maybe the SEC will let us put green jerseys on all our players DURING the games......."yea, that's the ticket".

Yea that point has been made and Frazier provides the Equipment with a few exceptions.

Injury Rate is abnormal. Injuries higher in shoulder's and head. Injuries extending deeper into lineup is abnormal.

First year, higher injury rate, equipment change correlation. However, equipment padding not changed so I understand. Must be something else.

S&C Maybe.

Football is a contact sport, always have been always will be and injuries will occur.

An Abnormal Increase in number of injuries and types of injuries incurred could imply a change occurred causing more injuries.

Equipment may not be it, so next up.

Non contact vs. contact is on the S&C, other than that a detail study of how each injury happened would be needed to determine if it's an equipment issue rather than being hit by a 300 lb man with 4.9 speed.

Car wrecks happen on every play, the equipment keeps them going.

Get well soon Vols, in time for USC.

Head and shoulder injuries are the most concerning, but then you can't disregard the increase in foot injuries.

10 out 18 returning players due to injuries, (2 players not included (Williams, OBrien) Injuries in the depth chart. Nike equipment and injuries are up.

GA experienced the same their first year of transition.

Correlation? Yes, Threw it out there.

Well when you fall awkwardly on to your ankle or if your leg twists, no brand is going to stop an injury.

Not equipment related.

New strength and conditioning coach - mounting injuries - correlation? I for one think there is a correlation.

Maybe we shouldn't have our starters playing on special teams. We need to be reducing the number of hits our starters take, not increasing them.

Maybe we need fewer fans thinking they know more than coaches. Maybe we need to stop singing Rocky Top Woo so much. Maybe we need to get rid of Kesling and John Adams. Maybe they need to get the new dorm finished so players can walk down a hallway to ATC, rather than from Vol Hall. Maybe we need someone with a brain running for President.

Lots of maybes.

This seems like a legitimate question for fans or even casual observers. I don't get the criticisom of the OP and others for asking it.

The OP is more or less following the scientific method. Ask a question. Form a hypothesis. Test it with experiments, measurements and observations. Refine it until you reach an explanation, conclusion, i.e. the truth, or reject it. (Generally speaking. I am not a scientist.)

I'm guessing that the staff has professionals doing exactly that. I'm also guessing that the field of sports medicine and injuries has a lot of data to draw from.

It's not unreasonable for fans to wonder what's going on.

Also, I'm still waiting on an answer to "Name one other team that has lost 11 starters to injuries." I'm sure it has happened, but I expect it's an anomaly.

Beer drinking? Grow up vs dragging this around like a wet paper towel. LOL

Saban stated last year most physical game. Stoops alluded to it.

Not once this year have I seen this team totally gassed on the sideline.

What I saw yesterday was a depleted roster due to injuries, playing into roster depth with minimum game experience.

Alabama's experience and a our lack of experience, the injuries, and a totally conservative game plan preceded by a brutal schedule will get you butt whipped every time.

Vegas odds will tell you the reality of the whole outcome. Double Digits opening that grew to 14 points was enough for me to know Vegas knew.

This is what I've been saying all weekend. I'm surprised more fans aren't connecting the dots here.

It has nothing to do with the gear. It is a strength and conditioning issue if anything.

If Anything implies nothing more than S&C. Probably more simply because of the number of injuries.

Explain 4+ shoulder injuries. 1 or 2 per season but we are halfway through it.

If anything is to blame, it is the god awful field conditions that we've been playing on since Butch changed the grass type a few years back.

It's 100% Strength and Conditioning.

We fire our S&C guy and then a couple months later our highly regarded nutritionist resigns.

Now we're sitting on Mark Richt levels of poor S&C. It's 100% S&C and, like the poor DeBord hire, it's 100% on Butch Jones.

We got waxed against A&M on their turf. Florida and Bama played here with no injuries while we got waxed against them.

It's S&C. Field doesn't help... but it's S&C.
