I can never remember this many injuries in a season.

Does Nike provide all the equipment? Helmet, Pads, Shoes and so on? If so, is there a correlation between the equipment and the numerous injuries?

Injuries such as concussions, Sprains, Shoulder are up? Could it be more equipment related?

I understand but we are in our first year or second? It has been commented in the past on this board that Nike equipment has been known to be flawed in shoes.

Look at other schools in their transitions the first year or two injuries were up.

We have experienced a huge rise in injuries Spring Practices were higher than normal. Equipment changes are never easy but we have had more ankle sprangs, shoulder injuries, and I have don't remember a but a handful of head type injuries in the past 10 yrs prior to this one.

Equipment Change and injuries are up. We don't follow other teams as close as this one but it could be in the design of the helmet and helmet padding for all I know.

Spranged ankles could be due to equipment: shoes.

Had to ask.

I don't recall that being said anywhere. I DO recall pretty much everyone saying that Nike cleats were better than Adidas cleats and I can vouch for that, I've sold both.

sorta wished it was equipment...be a hell of a lot easier to fix, but, to me, it's just the ole Volunteer struggle...football gods just trying to keep us down...but, we shall overcome...:pepper::pepper::yahoo::yahoo:

GO VOLS!

Head and shoulder injuries are the most concerning, but then you can't disregard the increase in foot injuries.

10 out 18 returning players due to injuries, (2 players not included (Williams, OBrien) Injuries in the depth chart. Nike equipment and injuries are up.

GA experienced the same their first year of transition.

Correlation? Yes, Threw it out there.

Nike provides cloth and shoes....... The helmets, shoulder pads, protective pads, braces and all other "equipment" are the same as always and are chosen by Frazier.

Thanks that is what I was looking for if it was a total equipment overhaul or not.

Ok, so do we need to look at our equipment then? Because we are having injuries at a statistically improbable rate.

TN provides it's players the absolute best protective equipment available on the market. The same as all other elite teams, including the NFL, wear.
Guys, I know it is killing all of us not to have our 22 "best" on the field at all times, but to try and "blame" anything other than "football is a violent sport" is wishful thinking.

Name one other team that has lost 11 starters to injuries. Go back 10 years and give me a list.

Maybe it's not equipment, but it's something.

Football twists and turns the body in ways that most sports do not. ADD to that fact being violently hit by another player/players while the body is in an awkward position, you have your "blame".

I don't understand why folks aren't connecting the obvious dots - forget the Nike stuff - we Butch replaced his S&C coach this year, and our injuries have gone through the roof. I'm surprised more fans aren't pointing this out. Doesn't mean every injury is his fault, but there's no way this is a coincidence.

Absolutely right, wish there were hundreds of other teams that played it to so we could compare.... Oh, wait... there is...

I think we should, but I started this thread. Injuries do happen but at this rate and at the depth is unusual.

May not be equipment, could be in technique but when you have this kind of injury list over a year at this rate at this depth.

There is a problem contributing to it. Strength and Conditioning has not been the problem in the past but is it contributing to our current injury rates.

I agree, not saying it's equipment. I'm not saying what it is, but it is statistically abnormal.

Maybe we shouldn't have our starters playing on special teams. We need to be reducing the number of hits our starters take, not increasing them.

I still think Butch should have brought Andreu Swasey over from the U as S & C coach when he brought Scott from the U. Swasey was at the U around 16 yrs and is damn good at what he does! One of the best in the country
