If this has been discussed in another thread please tell me.. My question is, Are Tuttle, Mckenzie, Berry, expected to go through spring drills.. On Tuttle I thought I read where some are worried he wont be ready by fall camp? Just wondering if anyone has new info.. I fear Vols will not have enough DTs to pose a good spring practice..

All of those guys are out for the spring.

Kmac should be good to go sometime by Summer workouts.

Tuttle will be question mark up until week one and some have speculated he might even need a redshirt for him to get back in the kind of shape we need for him to reach his potential (like Maggit in 2013 where he probably could have soldiered through the latter half of the season or so, but he and the coaches decided his body could use a full year of recovery before building himself back into football shape).

(FTR, I have no medical expertise, so the following probably can/should be discounted)

I'm not sure on Berry. Torn ACLs can be a crap shoot. Seems like some guys only need 6-9 months to get back to normal. Some take more like a year and a half or so. Having a tear late in the season sucks. Hopefully we have him back for SEC play.

The Rock cuts recovery times in half. They're all going through drills already and are looking bigger, faster, and stronger than they ever have.

I expect Tuttle to push hard to get back, then leave on the first train to the NFL after a dominate year.

A recent article by SDS said Hoke would have Tuttle and KMac for spring practice beginning on March 21. Now I think the author was mistaken and simply stated our entire defensive line group, but it'd be nice if they have progressed that much since their injuries.

Will the Vols ever have a healthy Tuttle for a full season, after 2 major injuries the jury is still out for this potential difference maker, yes?

I agree in the sense that regardless if he's able to play he'll be coming back again with a short offseason and will have to make up the missed time, which may make him vulnerable to reinjury or push his body over the top. He's not had the opportunity to work and progress through an entire offseason due to injuries. He's had to expediate the process near the start of the season and I think that's contributed to his injuries some and affected his play. It'd be nice to see his impact and ability when 100% healthy and a full offseason under his belt.

Just think, if Barnett had gone through spring ball he'd probably have broken White's sack record and left early for the NFL.

Question for Tuttle isn't whether he'll go thru spring training, iirc, we know he's not. Question at this point is, will he be available at all for the 2017 season. Nobody knows at this point.

Not really. Hes definitely a difference maker when hes out there. Just not out there enough.

That's laughable, you have to show you can play without getting hurt. He needs to play at least an entire season.

Don't know many teams taking an injury prone guy who showed some flashes. See North.

DT depth... ouch

There is none. I argued multiple times last preseason that we were thin at DT and I had guys telling me we were 5,6,7 players deep, we were in great shape, don't worry about it, we can even withstand a injury or 2, we're loaded there.........and they were the same guys who later argued that our defense was bad and our team underachieved only because we lost 3 defensive tackles, two of which were backups.

Well, newsflash, we sit here today with one healthy, experienced, reliable, legit DT as we head into spring practice. Then throw in that we're breaking in 2 brand new DEs, are thin at LB to say the least, and have major concerns at corner.

Tuttle (who has a long recovery road) and McKenzie are very injury prone. Behind them we have Quay Picou, unproven Alexis Johnson, and who? True freshmen?

Kongbo, they didn't mention him as a de in the article in other thread. He's a dt.

From a defense that sucked, prolly means we are trending up. I'm serious. Don't complain about losing folks from a terrible defense.

But look who we lost....all-time great DE Barnett, solid/productive DE Vereen, solid/steady DT Obrien, our best CB Sutton, outstanding LB JRM (look what happened to our LB corp last year when he didn't play). Normally I would agree.....but we pretty much lost the guys who kept an awful defense from being beyond horrific.

i find it laughable that people think Tuttle is injury prone. the guy got cheap shotted against GA two years ago. that's not injury prone fellas.

and as for this past season, if you want to blame the injuries on something, blame it on the overall depth at DT. we weren't 3 deep at both positions able to rotate in and out, and as the season wore on, depth didn't exactly get better.

anyone that has to play that many snaps on defense is increasing the probablity of injury.

and newsflash, we're not super deep headed in to this year either.

injury prone, it's not like these guys and having tweaked ankles, knees and shoulders, and pulled hamstrings week in and week out...indicating they're not taking care of their bodies....jeez.

Don't fool yourself. We were horrific. Barnett was sack hunting at the end. I like him but many folks like Hyams said it as well. We maybe better with more team guys and coaches on the same page as DC.
