Didn’t they play 6 straight games against unranked teams. Which by the way were conference games. I need to see them beat Alabama in the playoffs before I build them a statue.

They already beat Ohio State. What did Tennessee do against Ohio State?

They also crushed Illinois, a team we got manhandled by. SEC is looking overrated so far (granted I think opt outs and coaching changes are impacting SEC post season performances).

Also, you can't criticize their schedule when we had 4 OOC cupcakes, Miss State, UK, Arkansas, and Florida. 8 teams with losing records.

Last year everyone said Indiana doesn’t play anyone and shouldn’t be in the playoffs. This year they’re now a powerhouse in football.

Look at their performance. Also they did something to the "bad" teams on their schedule that Tennessee fails to do, manhandled them. They can also win road games (Iowa, Penn State, Oregon).

Pressure is on. If Indiana can do it, why can't Tennessee? Why can't we beat Georgia? Why can't we make it to Atlanta? Why can't we win a meaningful game.

Curt Cignetti beat Ohio State and won the B1G in 2 years. What does he have that Heupel or others do NOT?

Time to man up Knoxville.
The wins:
*Florida International (4-8)
Western Illinois (FCS)
at UCLA (5-7)
Charlotte (5-7)
Maryland (4-8)
at Northwestern (4-8)
Nebraska (7-6)
Washington (6-7)
at Michigan St (5-7)
Michigan (8-5)
Purdue (1-11)

ODU
*Kennesaw St
Indiana St (FCS)
Illinois (9-4)
at Iowa (8-4)
at Oregon (12-1)
Michigan St (4-8)
UCLA (3-9)
at Maryland (4-8)
at Penn State (7-6)
Wisconsin (4-8)
Purdue (2-10)
Ohio St (12-1)

*Cancelled series against Louisville (9-4) and UVA (11-3)

Ohio St this year is not Ohio St last year....

Indiana didn't even play a team with a winning record last year until the 3rd week of November

Let the season play out and see what happens in 3-4 years with him. Cignetti is a good coach and it appears the $$$$$$ was there for them to retain good players, but see what may happen in years to come. Heupel did a great job walking into this mess he faced, but TP, NIL and other have turned College Football into a plug and play scenario. OSU will thrive in this environment as well soft schedules have a Tendency to do that.

It helps to have a QB of that caliber.......

and opposing coaches praise their defense....

From "The Athletic" yesterday..

Excerpts:

The Athletic spoke to four coaches who have played Indiana this year and to a Power 4 defensive coordinator who studied the Hoosiers this month to learn more about what makes them so good.

“(Haines) gets all those sacks because he changes the look post-snap,” said a Big Ten running backs coach. “The quarterbacks think, ‘OK, I’m getting pressure, I’m gonna throw it right here, and then realize — ooh, he’s covered. Sack. He sucks to play against.”

Exactly. Indiana is a good team, no doubt, but their schedule is way weaker than Tennessee's.

This is my big concern for college football in general if Indiana wins the national title. I think it's completely reasonable for Tennessee fans, myself included, to have pause with Heupel five years in especially if next year is a regression. But if Cignetti hoists the trophy this season? Forget a 5/6 year timeline, the amount of money being thrown at new coaches and players to immediately try and replicate that level of success will torpedo the sport even further.

And if Indiana was in the SEC they would be 12-12 the last two years.
