Seems that if you criticize the Vols you are a negavol and if you are positive then you are just drinking the Dool-Aid. Some of us prefer to think and are capable of debating the pros and cons of an issue while remaining firmly in support of the team. We can discuss in private (well, as private as a message board with a couple of hundred thousand subscribers can be) and cheer our lungs out on Saturday. This independent-mindedness is true to our Tennessee history--why do you think we have 3 stars, one of which is upside down? Therefore, I give you the "Indi-Vol" the thoughtful fan who is unafraid to judge for him or herself when something is truly positive or truly negative and not afraid to state the facts as they are, with neither sugar coating nor nit-picking. Who is with me?

I agree with you. The give and take and expression of ideas is why I come to this site.

Indi Vols seems like another way to justify being a negavol. JK of course but I need a grid for what each "party" stands for.

I am for UT not making negative headlines and for having actual and not moral wins on the field. I'm wiling to accept setbacks and give those in power time to fix what's hosed but not willing for that to include another 5 years of sucking. What camp does that fall under?

I disagree with this thread. As the greatest president of our time, George Bush Jr, once proclaimed "You are either with us, or against us". There is no room for middle ground in political banter or Vol message boards.

Not to nit-pick, but I think the three stars are intended to illustrate unity, rather than independent-mindedness. FWIW

Here's the Tennessee History lesson for the day (I did not know this until the OP inspired me to look it up):

Tennessee (U.S.)

The Tennessee State Flag was designed by Captain LeRoy Reeves of the Third Regiment, Tennessee Infantry. Captain Reeves explained the design of his flag as follows:
Tennessee is divided into three regions - the Tennessee River divides West Tennessee from Middle Tennessee, and East Tennessee is the area of the Smokey Mountains and east - the "Grand Divisions. The three stars are of pure white, representing the three grand divisions of the state. They are bound together by the endless circle of the blue field, the symbol being three bound together in one.... an indissoluble trinity. The large field is crimson. The final blue bar relieves the sameness of the crimson field and prevents the flag from showing too much crimson when hanging limp. The white edgings, contrast more strongly the other colors.

True, but if you ever stood before a MOTR* Board at UT ROTC you'll know that one star is upside down to represent the fact that East Tennessee did not secede from the union during the Civil War. This is tradition so you won't find it in the official history. For me, this is even more profound in that it shows you can have disagreement and still have unity. Thanks for quoting the history!:good!:
