Since it looks like we are losing 5-6 players on the defensive line and our offensive line, How many Freshmen do you think will start next year?

ummmm I think he was asking about the incoming players that are on the O and D line. Hence the "we are losing 5-6 lineman" qoute

Not counting JUCOs, I'd say O. Brown and Sharpe.

To include the JUCOs I would add Blair and Lambert for sure.

Hard to say OP. Hendrix, Mixon, Barnett will have the best shot as true freshman, and possibly Mosley if he commits. I also hope Vickers, Carr, Lewis, and Miller can step up big next year for us.

Start?

My guess now is 1-2.

I think we have some JUCOs come in to fill some holes.

Attrition is attracting 4* DL, currently we have six verbals and early PT is a draw for these prospects. Butch has a quota for every position on O or D.

Unfortunately I say 7. By the way I believe that is a good thing, since I see no one is safe and our defense is unacceptable.

If you are talking about the lines, I think the O line looks like this: Blair, Jackson, Crowder/Thomas, Wiesman, Kerbyson.

The d line will be something like Vereen, Reed or other JUCO DT, Lambert/Carr/Saulsberry/O'Brien, and Lambert/Williams/Barnett/Brown etc.

In short we may have one freshman on the o line and possibly one on the d line. Thomas is an EE and is 6'6" and 300 right now. I think that he will be physically ready to play. We will have a ton of options at DE next year, with 3 guys red-shirting, plus Vereen and Lewis, and 6 freshmen/JUCOs coming in.

The rest of the team, possibilities, on offense: Hurd, Malone, Helm/Wolfe

Defense: Bates/Mouhon at one OLB, Kelly, McDowell, Gaulden, Payne, Berrys...everyone in the secondary will get a shot. Cam and Brian are probably the only guys who will be starting.

Starting? Maybe 2 (Helm...one of the defensive backs). But I wouldn’t bet money on that.

In the two-deep? Probably 11-13.

They knew this was going to happen in their second year, and they’ve been playing as many offensive and defensive linemen as possible. I doubt any Freshman starts on either line, though they will play in rotation. Linebackers will be forced to play young guys early, as will the DBs.

The four JUCOs so far--Pearson, Blair, Lamber, and Weatherd--are being brought in to start immediately. And more than likely will. Add that to the guys already on the roster, and that’s what I see happening.

This staff is going to play A LOT of guys in a game. Starting won’t really be as big a deal as it was in the past when they are playing the best 22 on defense every game. The by-product of playing so many players is that you can promise recruits immediate playing time (and not lie like the Michigan staff did). And when you play those young guys they progress faster.
