Incoming class: Roster Updates.

I may have some mistakes. I'm trying to watch a ballgame on TV too & make posts. Yes, for your #3 question though. Evan Berry is not going to be high on the depth chart at safety.

He will mostly be depended on for just special teams play with a few on the field snaps at safety. Warrior is 10X better than Evan Berry already coming in as a freshman. Abernathy is better than Evan Berry as well.

Colton Jumper shouldn't be behind Kirkland at MLB that's for sure. He's done nothing since he's been here & I don't think he will earn that spot myself. He will be further down the depth chart now.

I just took the nickelback out for my picks & just used straight CB's. Did Martin pass Moseley on the depth chart towards the end of last season? I know Moseley was opposite Cam most of the season. I also know that Malik Foreman took Moseley's place several times last season too.

Robertson is supposed to be starting on the OL. Did I screw that up to? Well, there's another correction that I need to go back & make.

Remember, their starting positions aren't listed by going left to right(LT-RT) or right to left(RT-LT). I picked them based on thinking of them mostly off the top of my head.

I believe Evan Berry will be our #2 guy as our PR this coming season. That wasn't a mistake. He needs more touches. I know it's different than taking a KR but he can do it.

Tyler Byrd in my opinion will be given chances too at PR's. He's just great in the return game. He's also faster than Evan Berry & Cam Sutton as well.
Evan Berry was a junior Olympian at one point in his early teens, fastest young man at one or two track lengths in his age group for the entire USA. Now if you know for a fact Byrd is faster, I'd like to understand how and where you got that info and how valid that source is please.

I've read it on other articles when I was looking into Tyler Byrd after he committed to us. I don't know the articles because I didn't save/bookmark them.

That's all I can say. It would be hard to believe because nobody can catch Evan Berry once he gets in the open field.

We have KMac who's coming into his sophomore season and still learning to play the position. .
Both Vickers and OBrien are serviceable guys, placeholders if you will. They're certainly in the rotation, but they're not remotely elite SEC DTs. .

Then you have a talented, undersized Picou who's yet to play a down of college football.....and walkon Paul Bain..

To address just a few of your points ...

Vickers was said to be the strongest man on the team last year. Now in his 4th yr, LAST year he started 13 out of 13 games for a 9-win SEC team. He aint no slouch.

KMac, a true Freshman last year, was said to have transformed his body in the off-season and was often "unblockable" this past spring. I strongly believe he would start for 90 % of the SEC teams, maybe all of em.

O'Brien is a 5th-yr man, and started 12 out of 13 games for our 7-win SEC team in 2014, before he got into some trouble last year. He knows how to play the position, and can help direct the younger ones.

Picou "has yet to play a down of college football"? You are mistaken, sir, as he got into 5 games last year as a true freshman, including at least 2 SEC games and our bowl. Though smallish for a DT, he was said to be quick and high-motor, and surely now has more weight and strength than the true freshman version of him.

Tuttle ... was said to be close to 100% now, if not already100%. Does that mean completely game ready? No, and you know we don't play in July; still 2 months til Sept. games when we will need him.

Paul Bain ... sure a relatively unknown for us, but a 6-5, 290 unknown.

Kongbo ... 6-6, 270, and looking good; I won't wring my hands if we slide him inside now and then.

A. Johnson ... not banished from our program, still around.

Really good post & very valid points.

You don't have any sources, though do you? The only things we have to point to are the times on recruiting websites that all say berry is faster. Really, there's no way we can reliably say either is faster than the other though.

Until then, you're hypothetical articles are worth as much as the ones I read five minutes ago (and conveniently lost) that say that Evan Berry is a half second faster than Byrd in the 40.

Tyler Byrd was a State Champion in track n field this past spring down in Florida. Hes very very fast.

But Evan Berry has breakaway speed that UT hadnt had since Willie Gault.

Byrd may beat him in a 40. Foreman did. But the 60 or 100 ... nope.

These are Byrd's track and field stats. 2 State titles in the long jump... this year at 24.75'. Very impressive.

Tyler Byrd - FL Track and Field Profile

That 4x400 time of 3:23.81 is nice also considering two of the team members will be in Orange this year.

A 22.68 200m time is not too shabby either. We will see how it all translates on the football field.

I have to admit I was left scratching my head at KB's lack of knowledge about Picou's playing time last year, it's not like him to miss something like that. To your point, I am not wringing my hands over our "lack of depth" at DT as some have mentioned. If Kirkland gets blindsided at knee level by a UGA player, the season could fall on the floor with him, albeit we're in better shape this year with Shoop being our DC. I put NOTHING past that dirty bunch in Athens at this point, especially since some of them down there have Tide ties and the SEC looked the other way when Shy was taken out.

I can agree with that in bold above. Evan Berry has great breakaway speed once you get past 40 yards.

Evan Berry 4.34
Osbourne 4.31
Martin 4.33
Foreman 4.38
J Kelly 4.38

All of these guys supposedly ran these times at one point in time.

That's some speed right there! We shouldn't be getting beat deep very often. Seems like last season all of our deep threats in which we were beaten was busted coverages even though Moseley got burned quite a few times one on one.

I think Justin Martin is going to have a big year. Similar to Cam his freshman and sophomore years. I want to see what Buchannon and DJ Henderson can bring. DJ should have a leg up as a JUCO early enrollee. I would've preferred Byrd at corner because Moseley has been a liability and Cam is gone after this season. After this season, our corners will be Martin, Moseley, Henderson, Buchannon, Miller.

Remember that Malik Foreman replaced Moseley last yeast the 2nd CB position later in the season because of how much Moseley was getting beat. He also did a better job than Moseley as well.

Foreman will still probably start out at nickelback at the beginning of the season but Moseley will be looking over his shoulder for Malik to take his place in a heartbeat as the 2nd CB. Foreman has improved here at UT more than a lot of players that has came thru this program.

I personally think he deserves to start at CB over Moseley but he will still be getting his chance no matter what happens.

Foreman really started playing fast as the nickel over the last few games. But, he's a senior. I would think next year, Gaulden plays the nickel and Warrior will fill that safety spot.

Gaulden will end up Nickel. Starting this year...
