SIAP, I couldn't find a thread on this so....

Tis a beautiful thing to finally see these names on the official roster. And Niehaus is already up to 290 and ready to do some damage. That kid is fierce.

Keep those legacies coming Butch. Damn I need a fix!

And in case some missed it, Byrd took over Jersey #10 with the departure of Perry. Originally he was slated for #15.

One thing that stands-out to me looking at that is the quality of players who share a number.

It's common knowledge that there are more players than numbers, so you're always going to have 2 players wearing the same number -- usually one on offense and one on defense (so there's never a chance of them being on the field at the same time).

A few years ago, it seemed like the shared number was always a big name and a guy who didn't get much PT. But when you look at those shared numbers now, you see pairs who are both big names, either established or newer guys with very high expectations. Just another indication of an overall improving roster, I guess.

Whoa! BJ has been busier than even I realized. That line up really does look the part don't it. I don't even recognize some of those names. We have more guys than I thought.

Doug Mathews talked about a handful of incoming players this morning after saying he's recently attended team workouts and has seen many of our newcomers....

1. Marquill Osborne- said he's looked outstanding, well ahead of where he should be expected to be. Said we should look for him to play a lot this season at corner and/or nickel.

2. Jonathan Kongbo- just said he heard that he "looks great".

3. Ryan Johnson- extremely athletic, even moreso thsn they thought, up close to 300lbs. Said everyone expected all 3 OL recruits to redshirt, but Johnson may not because he's been so impressive.

4. Jarrett Guarantano- first off, he actually calls him Guarantino....driving me nuts while embarrassing himself, but I digress. Said he would "be surprised if he doesn't pass up Dormady at some point this year". Said QD looks good and may hold him off, but that Guarantano is the "real deal" and has looked great in shorts thus far.

5. Alexis Johnson- don't expect to see him play for Tennessee this year, perhaps ever. Still in school, but the "calendar and campus atmosphere" is strongly against him.

6. Nigel Warrior- TKJr and Gaulden almost certainly have the safety spots locked down, but said Nigel is very impressive and we should look for him to get plenty of playing time.

I look for Warrior to play the same kind of role Kelly Jr. has over the past two years, which should give him plenty of opportunities to make plays.

After reviewing this list I have a small concern with the RB position. I really wish we had at least 1 more. I know we have Berry as an emergency plan, but I like a full stable.

Anything mentioned on Jeff George? I expect an immediate impact from him.

That's bad news on Alexis, I don't know what all happened the night in question, I hope for the best for him.

What's up with all the #35s

Go Vols!

He didn't mention George. He gave the caveat that he hadn't seen or heard about all the newcomers and if he didn't mention someone to not take it to mean that that player wasn't doing well.

Thanks for the report.
When does practice start?

If you're talking about Elliott I agree, but he's coming off a knee injury and I haven't seen any updates.

I don't think moving Evan over even in an emergency is in the cards.

You think they would forgo a redshirt year on CFA (if that's in the cards) in order to keep Evan on the defense/ST?

I must say though, the thought of a two back wildcat with Berry and another is intriguing.

Right now I think Evan is looking at his future earning power, and the coaches need to be sensitive to that as well. It would be fun to see him
in the backfield but personally I'd rather see him take a few reps in the slot if for no other reason than a decoy just to screw with the Gators
and the Dawgies of the world.

Every year I pick one Walk On to adopt, Alex Ellis was one of those guys, Joe Stocstill cause I know his parents....and this season its Joey Cave.

I don't know if everybody caught this story a few weeks ago but he's a DT that signed with Martin, then decided to take a year off to focus on time in the
weight room and has blown up to this! Looks more like a WWE contestant than a high school recruit. He's not on the roster so I guess he hasn't enrolled
yet but at 290lbs he sure looks the part.

If by Guarantano "passing up Dormady" he means for next year? No issue. Barring injury, I don't think they waste a year of eligibility and assure TWO transfers DECLARING him the defacto heir apparent in the garbage minutes derby. I know some on here have stated JG is a 3 year and out talent, but I still don't see that as concrete enough to make Butch abandon the shell game and bombing the depth chart.

Jet sweep IMO. He's got the speed and the moves to pull it off.

Agree with your thoughts entirely. No doubt in my mind that JG redshirts. I think Doug was impressed with "Guarantino" enough to the point where he believes he'll be ahead in the battle for the 2017 job. Said that it'll be a great QB battle after Dobbs leaves, which we all believe.

Edit: should've said "which most of us believe". I can quickly think of at least 3 posters who think it's already Guarantano's job.
