I was surprised by the number of blatant errors at yesterday's inauguration...I was wondering if anyone else caught any...such as

1) Chief Justice Roberts messed up the 35-word (or so) oath of office not once but twice, first putting faithfully at the wrong place and when Obama stopped to see if Roberts wanted to correct what he had said, Roberts messed up again, leaving out the word execute.

2) I think that it was Warren in his prayer said that we were witnessing the 44th peaceful transition of power. It is the 43rd transition of power, not 44th...you can't transition power to the first guy, IMO. I think Warren messed up his math there.

3) I think that it was Obama that commented on being the 44th person to take the oath of office, but he isn't - he's the 43rd. Grover Cleveland took it twice, but as the 22nd and 24th Presidents. Another error.

Did anyone else notice any comments that were wrong? And, I mean incorrect, not politically wrong or awkward, such as "white will do what is right".

The singing of God Bless America was one big awkward moment.

If you play the inauguration tape backwards you can clearly hear Obama saying "Death to Whitey".

That was indeed pretty embarassing. Just a bunch of gibberish after the first line.

The poet was horrific.

the benediction rap was a disaster.

When will white flee into the night?
Only black can bring us back.
All the yellow really smello.
When will brown leave town?

I don't know it took a lot of skill on his part. I mean it took me two seconds to come up with my little rap.

You forgot,

If its yellow let it mellow
If its brown flush it down.

In general, or was their a particularly important one he missed?

He seemed to be oddly saluting throughout the day...but I guess it is something that he'll have to get used to.
He did not return the salute from the USMC Color Guard. He simply waved at them.

Hmm...so this would have to be after 12:00...I'm trying to figure out which point you're talking about.

As he left the platform he didn't salute the capital police who saluted him...but that's not what you're talking about....

As he and Bush walked down the capital steps, their were servicemen there, but he didn't wave and I don't think they saluted (they did raise swords)....but I don't think that was the USMC color guard.

It doesn't look like he passed the color guard as he entered the inaugural lunch....

I don't think that I know enough about these things to find the moment you are referencing....

Ahh....maybe you are talking about during the troop review as he was leaving the capital after the inaugural luncheon.....he put his hand over his heart while the colors passed, but didn't salute.

I noticed the 44th transition of power statement when I heard it too and the first thing that came to mind was the transition between the Second Continental Congress to George Washington.

Obama could actually be the 44th person to take the oath but I'm not sure. The 25th amendment has been invoked 3 times. Regan temporarily handed power over to George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush has temporarily handed power over to Dick Cheney twice. I don't know if Cheney had to take the oath of office for it to be official.
